by: BlackI know this topic has been brought up plenty of times by a lot of people but can someone please reassure me that I won't get treated differently because I'm black? I know we shouldn't let the rumors or anything defer us from rushing but i am just a little worry. That is all. Thankyou!

Hi! I am a proud member of Gamma Phi Beta. I am also a leader in the chapter and am part of our membership committee, so I know a bit about how our voting system works. (Certainly more than the people who aren't even members of my sorority!!!) I would swear on my life that we DO NOT discriminate. I hate the current rumors with every atom in my body. This is not what my sisterhood is about. (And no, I am not defending the picture, which was abhorrent, but was a deeply regretted mistake that cannot be undone at this point other than to acknowledge that we all make mistakes and this was a huge one that we are learning from and handling.)
Please know that you will be welcomed at my house. If you are not, please tell someone in authority (not just this website) so that we have concrete names and specific details that we can address in a proactive manner. One of our core values is Learning, and I would welcome any opportunity for us to learn from a situation in which we did anything that was discriminatory or that felt discriminatory.

If that is the case, what was done about the person who posted a photo of a Gphi with a confederate flag, and what was done with the person who was in the photo?

I would never disclose specific internal chapter matters to anyone outside of my organization. I appreciate the desire to know what happens inside of a sorority other than one's own, but to discuss chapter business publicly would be a violation of the promises I made to my sorority and to my sisters. Thank you.

Yes I agree. These girls made a mistake and one of their executive members posted on here. There is only so much those girls can do and they have acknowledged it so please let them grow from this awful mistake. I am not friends with any Gphis, but this is just getting ridiculous. PNMS- No house, or gphi, will treat you any differently based on the color of your skin. These girls get a bad wrap but this house of 300++ women are not evil or out to get you.. Or for any house for that matter. EACH house is filled with kind, fun loving girls.

One of my best friends rushed with me and she's black, she got invited back to more houses than I did, we had the same high school GPAs and honestly she chose a mid tier house (not KD) and I know she's very happy there. Her race did not affect her at all and she's very involved in her house and treated well by her sisters.
