blacks in greek life
by: I need factsEveryone is talking about a certain house not talking blacks but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how many black women are Greek at Mizzou? How many black women are in each house? How many rush every year? How many drop before bid day and how many actually get bids? I've looked at several tumblers and I'm not seeing any in the majority of houses. I would love for this to be clarified. It sounds like Mizzou Greek life as a whole has an issue. Facts only please!

If YOU can't get those "facts," how do you propose WE get those facts? I get it. You think that if we don't have statistics to show that some houses are more welcoming to minorities than others, that it must not be true. Well, have you ever heard of anecdotal evidence? Anecdotally, I can tell you that when I walk through Greek Town on pretty spring afternoons I see many minority faces in front of some houses, but not all houses. You should try it some time, and then believe what you see. I believe what I see, and that was a member of a sorority partying with a confederate flag in the background. Are you denying that happened?

A few girls have spent months focusing on one house who actually has a very diverse group of women claiming they aren't. They focused on how many black women they have when in reality most houses don't have black women or at the most one or two. If we don't have enough Black women rushing, how can we change that? What steps can we make as a Greek community to change that? Bashing a house isn't helping. We need real change!

Pairing the historically black fraternities and sororities with the IFC and PHA pairs during homecoming and Greek Week competitions? That would encourage cooperation and build relationships between the groups, and when PNM's see that, maybe they would be more likely to join one of the groups, no matter what the "traditional" racial makeup of the group is.

Are you trying to stir up something, or are you truly interested?
What Mizzou doesn't need is more of the same, we are working hard to change our ways/image.
All members of PHA/IFC, as well as the Greek Life office, have gone through diversity training/education. We all WANT diverse members and do everything we can to be inclusive and make EVERY member feel included.
If you're willing to allow a change in your attitude and to open your mind up to the possibilities, and you have the grades/activities/honors/means to qualify and go thru recruitment, then Mizzou's PHA/IFC is willing to consider you as a potential new member.
