sorority recruitment 2015

by:

Hi I will be a PNM this fall and am rushing as a sophomore. Are there certain things houses look for in sophomores or will I get cut automatically because I'm not a freshman. I am really excited for rush I just want to know if there are houses that will cut me for being a sophomore. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure all houses will take sophomores, I believe they'll pay attention to your GPA and involvement and looks, and will definitely stalk you on social media to see what kind of freshman year you had. Mostly though, they'll be paying attention to your personality. You shouldn't get cut for being a sophomore unless you just suck tbh.

I rushed last year as a sophomore and I'm just going to be straight forward with you because that's how it was laid out to me and it made things a lot easier when going thru. First of all, be prepared to explain a lot why you didn't rush freshman year. I think I explained it at least twice in every house haha. Also, as a sophomore the houses are going to look for a good gpa and lots of involvement. Going in as a sophomore they require a lot more of you because they expect that when you got in college you got involved. Also, you will get cut from some houses just because you're a sophomore, don't take it too hard. It could have nothing to do with you but some houses have a limited amount of sophomores they can take (some might take one or two) and they have to make cuts. Go through with a really open mind and a positive attitude. Just know that you probably will get cut from some places for it so don't be thrown off guard, but that just means that wasn't the house for you :)
Good luck, girl!

Every house takes sophomores, you just have to be a little more outgoing and impressive than the freshmen.

It does place you at a bit of a disadvantage. All things being equal - a freshman is a more attractive option. They will likely be a member for 4 years, while you will be a member for 3.

Be prepared to not only explain your college resume, but also your HS resume. Your freshman year does not explain away any HS shortcomings.

I rushed as a sophomore and had an amazing experience! I worked hard to get involved and keep a high gpa freshman year so that definitely helped, but after explaining that I didnt rush as a freshman (because I knew nothing about greek life) I felt as though I was not viewed any differently than freshman pnms! the only important piece of advice I would give is to keep an open mind, I went into rush with certain houses in mind but ended up prefing a house I knew no one in above the two I had in mind and I am now in that house I knew nothing about and couldnt be happier!!

Im in a sought after house during rush. We look first at your college GPA which needs to be at least a 3.4. We then look to see if you were involved in anything on campus your Freshman year. If you look good on paper, we rush you like a freshman so it will come down to do you fit in/are you liked/and yes looks as in are you well put together/attractive. We usually end up with 2/3 top notch sophomores in our pledge classes.
