tier jumping

How does that happen? I think I read on here that at one time the "Three Queens" were Tridelt, DG and GPhi?

It had to have been around 10 years ago that DG or G Phi were considered good. Tri Delt has ALWAYS been #1 and Pi Phi and Chi O have been close seconds for years.

When my mother was in a sorority here, she says the top houses were PiPhi, Kappa and Theta. TriDelt, ChiO, ADPi and DG were in the next tier. She says that she can't recall GPhi ever being top tier, and her sisters (my aunts) were involved in Greek life after she was. She also says SK was new but didn't last long and that there was a sorority called Alpha Gamma Delta that was located where SK is now. They were nicknamed AGDog!

In order to tier jump, one house must fall from grace. It's true that the "Three Queens" used to be Delta, DG and GPhi. But scandals happen, weaker houses get stronger and in order to stay on top you have to be the best.

Tier jumping doesn't happen overnight though... It takes many MANY years to solidly be considered in a different "tier." Like for instance, DG 5-6 years ago was the best house on campus. They were undisputed the winners of hottest, smartest, and most fun. Some classes graduated, some hazing rumors (which were to some extent, true) circulated and their recruitments started becoming less successful. After all, nobody wanted to join the house that the girls hazed in and had documented evidence of it. But still, it didn't happen overnight. It took some time for people to really see the change in the house. Now they are OK, and they are a desired house among pnms, but nowhere near what the once were. They probably rank somewhere in the middle, maybe upper middle depending on who you ask. But it's a prime example of how tier jumping happens.

I believe over time, the same thing will happen to houses like gphi. There has been enough drama in that house to the point that girls will begin telling younger girls they know not to rush it, the "scandals" will become more thoroughly documented through greek life and other places and in a few years, they won't be how they have been. They'll become more mediocre. I don't know for sure if that will happen on course but I predict in a few years the house will dwindle. There's just too much goin on in there for it to stay stable.

The only people who think Alpha Phi jumped a tier is them. They have the worst grades. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon!!!!

I agree. The only way you can gain ground is to identify a weakness and then rush to combat that weakness. APhi's grades have been in the toilet for quite a while and they haven't done anything about it. Just as some houses rush to get prettier girls or to get girls who are more involved, APhi needs to make a concerted effort to get smarter girls in order to increase their ranking. I'm surprised their alums haven't insisted on it. Just being pretty isn't enough because every house has pretty girls.

I think she was referring to one they were bottom tier and then had a member review and threw in a bunch of nice, peppy, pretty party girls and they were out of bottom.
