bids

So I was told that if I am a legacy to a house and make it to preference day with them, I'll be at the top of their bidlist is this true? It makes sense. If a house wanted to get rid of a legacy wouldn't they have cut them before preference round?

Generally, true. But it depends on the house. Remember, too, that some houses could fill an entire pledge class with legacies. If they eliminate almost 2/3rds of their legacies, you might be near the top of their bid list but still not among the top 75 (or however many in the pledge class). So don't count on getting into a house where you are a legacy, even if you are there on the last day.

You should talk to the person you are related to who made you a legacy. (Called the "legacy maker.") If she doesn't know her sorority's policies, she can hopefully find someone who does.

In my organization, we are required to put any legacies who attend our preference party at the top of our bid list. So if we have 20 legacies at preference, those 20 are #1-20 alphabetically, then we rank every other PNM after that. If we have 80 legacies at preference, they are #1-80. Etc.

But I can't speak for any other organization. Again, you should ask your legacy maker what her sorority's policy is.

The legacy process gets really tricky with houses because Mizzou's rush is so big. I know alot of houses usually always give a legacy a second chance, meaning they won't cut them after the first round. BUT I have a super great friend who was a legacy to Tri Delt and DG and she was cut by Tri Delt after the first round and is now a DG. After the first round though every house does it differently. I know on sisterhood day my house cuts a lot of girls because every girl who comes to our pref day is most liekly on our bid list and legacies are mixed in alphabetical order. But my house doesn't put a huge emphasis on legacies unless she is a good fit.

My house is required to ask true legacies (daughter or sister of woman from our chapter) back after first round. After that, if there is ANY question we cut. If a true legacy makes it to Pref day they automatically go to the top. This is only if her Mom or sister was from our chapter at Mizzou
