the nice thing about this house that i really have to respect is how not cookie cutter they are. none of them are like "hot" barbie dolls, they are all very unique looking and comfortable in their skin. nobody is quite the same. they seem to recruit more based on presentation and personality rather than just a "look" like gamma phi or tri delt. its very very respectable

Competitions take up a lot of your free time when you're Greek. HOCO is a time consumer, you spend a lot of time pomping, putting together floats, paying money for shirts, etc. It's an investment. Since every house participates, we all want to win as validation that our hard work and money paid off. Pi Phi doesn't really care about the results so much as the product. I know like two years ago they had amazing house decs that broke all of the building rules so they didn't get points for it, but it looked amazing.

Maybe that's because PiPhi doesn't seem to give a rip about what other people say about them. I haven't even seen much evidence that they are ever on this site.

That may be true, but PiPhi has extremely high standards when it comes to academics, whereas Alpha Phi doesn't. PiPhi grade cuts are among the highest for PNMs, if not THE highest.

I disagree. I have a friend who is a recent Delta alumna and she was very alternative. Every house has "alt" girls but they're the sort of Pintrest Alt, if that makes sense? They look like Tumblr girls. You can be a hipster and still go greek. I did it, I'm in a top house. Yes, a lot of my sisters are stereotypically preppy but you can still stand out and be alt if you want.

Just make sure you still look put together, you know?

ChiO does have more of a granola, earthy sort of vibe, but I don't think that's what hipsters are about. Hipsters are edgy, which sort of describes some PiPhis. I have a hard time categorizing PiPhi because they all seem to do their own thing and are so individualistic. But I don't see them at all as preppy or rah-rah. Perhaps that's why they aren't all gung-ho for Greek Week and other competitions, but they have a great sisterhood. Somehow it all comes together. I would love to be in their cut sessions to see how they do it.

My roommate in the dorm (we are still good friends as juniors) is a PiPhi and I am in another house. She said that there is a great deal of pre-selecting that goes on and a strict numerical ranking system. But quality conversations are important, too. You have to bring something special, I guess, and she said that at one session it seemed the biggest insult they could give is that she is "a pretty girl." I guess the implication is that to just be pretty isn't enough, that they are looking for something more.

Pretty high up there. Pi Phi has a reputation with being top in grades along with XO. I'm not in either house but I'd say the lowest their grade cuts might go is a 3.2. Though honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they start cutting at 3.5. A lot of girls want Pi Phi, XO and Delta so they get to be more selective with grade cuts.
