bottom tier legacy question

by:

I'm a legacy to what is considered a relatively "bottom tier" house on here, but my older sibling all went to another school in the SEC, and I chose Mizzou. I'm close with my sisters and think becoming apart of the same sorority would be the greatest. I know Mizzou is competitive with recruitment, but do I have it in with bottom tier. Like what are the chances I get cut from a bottom house with good credential?

So the way that legacies usually work, regardless of tier, is that being a single legacy will get you invited because to the second round at that house automatically. Double legacy? Two party rounds. Etc.

Now for the bottom tier, I know that both Sigma and SK have very particular rules about cutting legacies. Because both of those houses are so small nationally, they love to hang onto legacies. So if the house you're a legacy to is SK or Sigma, you should have a pretty good chance because legacies are a big deal to them. Phi Mu and Zeta I'm not so sure about.

But yes, as a bottom tier legacy you should have a better chance than being a Pi Phi or XO legacy. I hope you like your legacy house. Enjoy recruitment!

Even though my house isn't really considered bottom tier, since recruitment is getting so big their have been times where we have cut legacies on the first round. If the active really gets a terrible vibe or has good reasons my house has the ability through nationals to cut. However this has only happened once or twice! My house is not the only ones who have done this, I have also known Tri Delta and Theta to cut a legacy after the first round. But if you are a double or triple legacy you should not worry at all! I hope i didn't scare you too much!

As a courtesy, houses won't cut a legacy on the first round. That's what all of those dues and initiation fees your family has paid for are going for: an invitation to at least one more party. After that you are on your own. the top houses will take legacies only if they are up to the same standard as the rest of the pledge class. Lower tier houses may be more lenient. But, having said all of that, you really should make up your mind on your own based on how you will fit in and how comfortable you feel at a house. Being a legacy is just one of many factors. For example, I was a double Kappa legacy and was asked back the last day, which meant I probably would be ranked fairly high on their final list,. But I just couldn't see myself in that house and so I listed them third. And if I had a daughter, I would want her to go where she felt most comfortable rather than where I felt most comfortable. Rush will unfold and you will get a strong sense of what is best for you. Good luck.

All other houses can see that you are a legacy. I know that my house doesn't tell the active that will be talking to you that you are a legacy to antoher house or to ours. But i know for my house and for sure a few others. Legacies will talk to legacies. As it gets closer t the end of the week its okay to ask questions about being a legacy. I know a ton of girls who ddin't want to join a house because there mom was or sister was one but then they fall in love with it and thats okay. But it is okay to dislike that house as well.

Do you have good grades and other good qualities or are you just hoping to get the legacy house because you otherwise wouldn't have a good rush?

Keep an open mind about rush. This is about YOU and YOUR decision on your home away from home, don't let your sisters or other greek family members. Alhotugh it would be great to share that bond with your family, it's not going to be great if you don't fit into that sisterhood! There's 14 other great houses so just make sure you are putting your best foot forward when you walk in to every house.
