houses

by: PNM

So I visited Mizzou yesterday and loved it! I drove by Greek row and stuff, and I personally thought that the DG house was the prettiest. I was just curious as to what exactly determines how nice a house is. Does it have to do with money from alumni or from nationals?

DON'T judge a sorority by the way it looks from the street. For example, DG is a physical pretty house but a trainwreck inside. KD, on the other hand, may not be the prettiest as a physical structure, but the girls get along, are kind, successful, etc.

The same with Chi O - their house is brand new because the old one wasn't big enough and was very outdated. Some people don't care for the outside but the inside is so gorgeous and it was paid for by alumni donations.

DG is pretty from the outside but horrendous inside!

The kappa house looks like my great-grandmother would live there. It really can't compete with PiPhi and ADPi which have been remodeled and redecorated recently. ChiO is big and some think it's nice, but it is an acquired taste.

I really didn't care for the ADPi house, it looked really barren and unattractive from the outside (to my taste) at least. I definitely agree about the AXO house looking like a gingerbread house! Very cute. Also to the first comment, I wasn't making any assumptions about the sororities themselves! Just observations about the houses. I didn't see the KD house or the Kappa house unfortunately, but I'm sure they're both very pretty!

Okay! Haha. I'm sorry, I'm not an architecture major so I wouldn't know that. I'm sure there are good things about all the houses! That specific structure just isn't appealling to me. I have no problem with any of the sororities and am extremely excited to rush! My opinion of any sorority has nothing to do with the way I think of the houses physically.

to be perfectly clear here.....what a house looks like on the outside or the inside is in no way shape or form an indication of that sorority is like. Nor should you ever choose a sorority based on what their house looks like.

omfg we get it. We know that the physical houses don't reflect the actual chapter!! We're just trying to have a convo about the beautiful sorority houses.

The DG house is beautiful but it's getting torn down after next year :(

Is this true? I understand that the DG house is relatively small, but how can they tear down a house that is historically significant. The last thing Greektown needs is a tacky McMansion equivalent like the ChiO house. Please say this isn't so.

I think a lot of our houses are just getting old and need major work and sometimes a complete rebuild is necessary to get what they want. I do wish they could keep the same look because a lot of our houses are do unique. I heard that Zeta has something planned soon too.

If the DG house had been well-maintained, they wouldn't have to tear it down. I know there were some lean years for DG when they had financial problems, but it would be just awful to lose a house as pretty as that just so that they have something brand new. New is not necessarily better. Take a look at how PiPhi and ADPI did such wonderful things without sacrificing the historic significance. If the Zeta, Theta or SK houses were torn down that wouldn't be a tragedy since they don't have the historic charm that many houses do. To tear down DG is really not cool.
