I know there are many posts a week about transfer sophomores coming. But can someone explain to me why sophomore transfer get cut from top houses. I will have a 3.6 but people still tell me that I will get cut from a top house because I'm not a freshman. Why is that?

First of all, a 3.6 isn't that great. It might be if you are an engineering or nursing major, but if you are in A&S, education etc. that's not a great GPA. Second, when you pledge as a freshman you get to know your pledge class extremely well before you move into the house, then get to live in the house with fellow sophomores the next year. Then when you move out (and likely live with sorority sisters), you will remain tight with other sorority sisters and participate in lots of house activities (while still paying out-of-house dues). In other words, you will live with people your own age and pay dues and remain involved for four years. When you join as a sophomore, much of that isn't true. The lower-mid and bottom tier houses might have to settle for sophomores, and even an occasional junior, in their pledge classes, but top tier houses don't have to settle for anything.

A 3.6 is a great gpa! The person is insane for saying its not most chapter only require above a 2.5 to be in good standing and if you look at the grade reports you can see its around a 3.3. Plenty of transfers rush as sophomores as someone who has been on both sides or recruitment it just depends on who you talk to in the house. Grade wise you're golden.

Top houses don't want to take someone who is simply in good standing. They want someone who will help raise the chapter's overall GPA. I don't think we would take a soph with a 3.6 unless she was in engineering, accounting or nursing.
