new house on campus?
by: dzI've been hearing rumors next year Delta Zeta it coming to campus, has anyone else heard about this?

I swear this comes up every few weeks. :)
The ONLY way a new NPC sorority could come to campus is if the campus formally opens for extension. Mizzou would have to notify NPC, which would notify all NPC sororities that are not currently at Mizzou. Those sororities would all have an equal opportunity to submit extension packets. Then the houses on campus would vote through their PHA reps to decide which three sororities to invite to campus to do full-day interviews, presentations, and meetings. After each of those groups did their presentations, the houses would vote which sorority to extend an invitation to join our community.
So no one will just sneakily pop onto campus. Everyone will know months in advance. And IF the campus opens for expansion, there will be some serious discussions about housing, since it is doubtful that anyone will want to join the community without having a chance to have their own property and be on equal footing with the existing houses.

There are only 26 NPC sororities, and we have 15. It's not like there is an unlimited pool left to choose from! And yes, SK had a property interest already. It is VERY expensive to expand at a school where you don't have a property interest.
This is not a very friendly community, as evidenced by the frequent posts like the above that make unjustified attacks on national organizations that have been thriving for over 100 years. Why would a sorority that doesn't already have a property interest here want to invest in this school? When so many women here ISP/suicide, and there is such a prevailing attitude that certain sororities aren't good enough? National officers are much more likely to want to invest their resources in a campus that would welcome them and support a new chapter. Every other thread here is about wanting Tri Sigma to get kicked off. That does not make an encouraging environment for a group to want to be one of the groups chosen to colonize here.
#4by: why
You bet those of us who take pride in our system are not eager to welcome minor houses. Mizzou Greek life stands for something pretty special. We have some of the strongest houses in the nation on this campus and the vast majority of the sororities here are on sound financial footing. We are inclusive and welcoming to all who seek to join. We do not discriminate. There are enough spots for the girls who want to be Greek as long as they give the system a chance. But why would we want to open up our system to sororities with nationals who run the risk of marginalizing our whole system? There is a reason the strongest survive. We are not here to pad the coffers of lesser houses who see Mizzou as ripe for expansion. Let's make every house already on this campus strong before we invite others.

Good God, I hope not! DZ is one of the weakest sororities nationwide. They will be another TriSig or PhiMu here. Their national reputation is "Easy DZ" We DO NOT need them at MU!
