cob
by: Can U?Does anyone know if........during COB your rushing 2 houses and the first house offers you a bid and you accept but your preferred house offers you a bid 5 days later, can you accept the second bid and just say no to the first one? I know it sounds crappy but since there doesn't seem to be any rules for COB why shouldn't a pnm be allowed to pick what she really want's just because houses decide to have event's at different times? Any rules on this?

You can depledge the first house after you have accepted their bid, but then you will not be eligible to accept a bid from any other house until next formal recruitment, in August. Once you say yes to a bid, you are bound to that bid until the next formal recruitment. Once you are initiated, you are bound forever, even if you later resign your membership.

That's a pretty common misconception, but one that deserves to be corrected I'm afraid. Per the NPC Manual of Information, the MRABA says:
"Once I submit this agreement, I am bound by the National Panhellenic Conference Unanimous Agreements, which state that if I receive an invitation to membership from an organization that I have listed and then do not accept it, I am ineligible to be pledged until the beginning of the next primary membership recruitment period on the same campus."
You are bound for a year if you decline a bid after formal recruitment, but are only bound until the next formal recruitment if you decline a bid at any other time. We say "one year" because it's easier than saying "until next formal recruitment" and it's usually in August that this is an issue. Those who get bids during COB, accept them, and then decline them, WILL be eligible to participate in formal recruitment in August.
