cob event

by:

What should I expect a COB event at their house to be like? I'm so nervous and don't want to screw it up. What kind of questions should I be prepared to answer? What will they be judging me on?

All houses do different events for COB, that's why no one is answering you. For my house, we invite our girls over to the house to a meet and greet. One year we decorated cookies to send to veterans. Other years we take them out to dinner. There will be other pnms there with you, and a handful of actives. Think of going to a wedding where you don't know the people at your table. You put on a smile, strike up a conversation, and enjoy the company. The actives are just trying to see if you would be a good fit and can get along and hold a conversation with the girls. If you're shy, you need to find a way to break that bubble. They're probably selecting from a large pool of girls and if they don't remember you, you probably won't hear back from them. Be friendly, be sweet, be outgoing. Good luck.

Thank you for the great advice. One of the houses I was invited to is looking at least 100 girls for probably ten or less spots so it's important to stand out in order to be invited back.

Thanks for the advice! I know every house is different I was just curious about what peoples experiences were. So are they looking more for how you interact with everyone rather then asking a bunch of questions like formal recruitment?

It depends on the house. When I COBed one house it was like a mini recruitment. They invited me in, sat me down, and I talked to a few girls in rounds.
Other houses are more informal and invite only a handful of girls to events. They do a few COB events over a few weeks and give out bids whenever they feel like they've found a good fit no matter if they've met everyone or not.
Other times when houses don't need that many girls, they ask their actives to provide names and take the pnm out with just a few actives for like a smoothie or something simple. They may be given bids and introduced to the rest of the chapter once they've accepted. That's more a 1 on 1 case, but you have to remember, that pnm already had strong connections in the house.

I dropped out of formal recruitment do you think they're going to ask me why? Because I dropped because my grades weren't the best and I didn't get any houses I liked back. But I got my gap up a lot this semester. If they ask what should I say on why I dropped?

Nope! I dropped formal too! On pref day. I left for shallow reasons (my favorite house cut me) And then I COBed house that I was invited to on pref day and joined! Funny how things work out, I belonged there the entire time!

They won't ask you. They wouldn't have invited you to COB if that was a concern. Blank slate :)

How many events will a house usually have if they're only looking for a little over 10 girls? Also how long do they usually take to get back to you?
