by: newbieNext year I will be a freshman and plan on rushing a sorority. however I'm from California and I really have no idea what types of brands are popular at Mizzou and if I will get judged for not having them? should I be worried that I won't get in a sorority because of this?

Be yourself and you will be fine! Yes, some brands are more popular than others during rush I've noticed, but I personally didn't wear any name brands and ended up with my first choice house. It's all about clicking with the girls - don't try to change yourself to fit in! Being from California is an awesome unique thing that will set you apart in itself. Don't worry too much, good luck!

It's not about what you wear. It's about who you are. I'm in a top house and we sort of laugh about girls who try too hard and try to dazzle us with brand names. If you have the grades, poise, leadership, personality - in short, the whole package - then what you wear is irrelevant.

honestly we will judge you more if you look like a billboard! The best outfits are ones from a variety of styles and brands (not necessarily Name Brands either). You don't want to be 100% jcrew or 100% free people, both of those would be too much by themselves and you would stick out! If you want some safe brands for looking nice rush/ the weekends I would recommend looking at online boutiques , lulus, red dress, or Maybe Nordstrom VP!

I am from California and honestly just wore what I would wear back at home. Had no trouble during recruitment at all and got the chapter I wanted on Bid Day. It's not really what's gonna make it or break it for you – chapters want to see you have great personal presence and can rock whatever you feel confident in.
#5by: hey ya great question

I wouldn't be caught dead in any of those. I prefer to put together my own style, not wear something I saw on a mannequin. What I wear is an expression of who I am, and I prefer to express my individuality. It must have worked because I wasn't cut from any houses (that I know of).
