by: A scared potentialI am rushing next year for panahellic soroties and can someone that is already in a sorority please break the week down for me? I have no idea what I am going to go through and I would really like to know what happens during and what happens immediately after you get your bid. Also is it before school starts?

Recruitment is a long but rewarding week. You will move in a week before classes begin, and be assigned a pi chi group made up of about 80 girls and 2-3 pi chis (panhellenic counselors). Pi chis are active sorority women who have temporarily disaffiliated with their chapter to guide pnms through recruitment and offer support. You will have a meeting with your group every night.
There are several rounds to recruitment week. The first two days are "open house" round, where you will visit all 15 chapters (7 one day, 8 the other) and just talk with a few girls in each house. Following this, you will preference your top 11 houses. In the best case scenario, you would receive a schedule on the third day with your favorite 11! However, you will more than likely have at least one of your bottom 4 on the schedule, as houses are making cuts too. This round is called sisterhood I believe, it is when you get to see all the houses put on their skits to showcase their sisterhood! You will also talk to 1-2 girls in each house this round. Then, the preferencing process repeats itself and you go down to a max of 7 houses on your schedule for the following day - which is house tours/philanthropy. You will get a tour of the sorority house and probably watch a video and be told about their philanthropy. You will also be told the financial commitment each house entails. Lastly comes preference day. You will visit a maximum of 3 houses today and get a peek into part of their rituals

...and get to hear what the sorority means to them. Many girls get emotional and feel that they truly know where they belong after pref. After this, you will rank these three houses in the order of 1, 2, 3. You may get your first choice, you may get your last choice, you may not receive a bid at all. Be prepared for anything.
When you open your bid card on bid day, you will run to the house in greek town and most likely do some kind of activity and get a goody bag of some sort. It's a very fun day, you meet a lot of sisters and you are finally done with the exhausting week. Beyond that, each house is different! You will have new member meetings, chapter, etc. and eventually get initiated! Hope this helped and have a great recruitment, best of luck!
