rec letters
by: Pamso how important are rec letters, especially if they're from a friend of a friend type situation? Because I don't know anyone from pi phi, chi O, or G phi personally! Is it still worth it?

A rec may be the difference between getting invited back the second round, but beyond that...a letter from a friend of a friend isn't going to be the difference between getting a bid or not. It definitely couldn't hurt, but there are plenty of girls who are perfectly happy with where they end up who didn't have recs at all. I say get the ones you can and don't go to the end of the earth to find an alum you hardly know. You will end up where you belong!!

I had a rec letter from my mom who was a Chi O at a different university, and four rec letters from my aunts who were ALL Mizzou Chi O alums and I didn't get asked back after the first round.
I had five for DG, four for Theta, three for Pi Phi, two for GPhi and one each for: AXO, Kappa, ADPi and DDD. I didn't get asked back to those, either. I (obviously) didn't have recs for SSS, KD, A Phi, Zeta, Phi Mu or SK. I made it into one of the houses that I didn't have a rec letter for (and BTW based off this site didn't get letters for because I thought they were undesirable). I cried really, really hard on bid day because mine wasn't a "Top House". Guess what? It all turned out great-- I LOVE my house, my sisters and wouldn't trade this experience for the world. I was a fool about this site, and my best advice: get letters, but don't sweat it.

No, I WAS NOT asked back to Chi O, and I'll thank you to NOT call me a liar. So either you girls messed up or YOU'RE lying, because I WASN'T asked back. My aunts were devastated, my mom not so much, (she went to ASU and was more bummed about my decision to enroll at Mizzou) but still.
I consoled her (when I was on the other side of recruitment and found out how it really works) by telling her I only had a HS GPA of 3.13 and an 18 ACT (was admitted to MU on probation) so that was most likely the reason.
My house has grade exceptions.

So you're criticizing houses for not asking you back even though you had recs when the reality is that your grades were the problem. I get it. You deliberately mislead us. In Journalism School we call that "burying the lede." I don't know about ChiO, but we only consider women who are students in good standing, not those who are accepted on a probationary basis. An 18 ACT? Wow.
