rejected from bottom tier........
by: affirmationSo, i went through rush and on pref day had 2 mid tier, and one unarguably bottom tier house. I preffed the bottom tier house number 1 because it felt right and there was a connection. Long story short on bid day they weren't the house who I got a bid from... I'm happy where I am but... does this happen much?

Honestly, you might've got lost your spot to a girl with a rec letter or a legacy to that house. By the end of the week, the scores on girls are so close that my house relies heavily on rec letters and legacies to make our bid list. Legacies go to the top of the bid list, girls with rec letters after legacies, and the rest of the spots go by score. It could've been fractions of a point. It doesn't mean they didn't like you. A lot of houses don't do things the old way where they have a power point of every girl and hand craft the bid list. A lot of it is a scoring system now and the system makes the cuts for you.

This just means that the house you wound up in had you higher on their list than the bottom-tier house you preffed. It could be for all sorts of reasons, one of which may have been that the bottom-tier house thought you wouldn't choose them. We have a scoring system in our house and we also do a power point for the Top 500+ girls who go through rush. Our scoring system helps when we need to quantify things, but, to be honest, when the committee that has the final say goes behind closed doors after all the points are added up, we make some modifications so that the girls we really want and who would be the biggest assets to the house wind up at the top of the list. It's both an art and a science and it seems to work for us. I am in a top tier house and our pledge class is a very close representation of the top one-third+ of our final bid list. There aren't many surprises.

yeah bottom tier houses don't not choose girls because they "thought you wouldn't choose them" they have the same ranking system as everyone else and choose girls they think would best fit and aren't scared off because someone wouldn't choose them because they are bottom tier. You probably had a lower score for them and a higher score in the other house so it naturally worked out (so i agree with hmmm)

Yeah, just because a house is bottom tier doesn't mean they will take anyone. Houses in the bottom tier are probably the most critical because they are constantly trying to get out of the bottom tier and the only way to do that is to improve. Nobody should go through rush thinking they can fall back on a bottom tier house if they have to. The bottom tier is just like every other house, very selective.
And honestly out bottom tier houses would beat out most top tier houses at schools like SEMO or MO State. We've got a fiercely competitive greek system and our bottom tier is no joke.
