rush
by: CuriousIs it hard to get a bid if you're from out of state and don't know anyone?
#1by: Nope
I didn't know even one person on this campus before I went through rush. I had the time of my life and wound up with three top houses on the last day. I would have been happy in any one of them. If you have good grades, activities, volunteer service, can hold a conversation and are somewhat attractive, you'll do well. In fact, I think it's an advantage because then you don't have anyone speaking out against you.

No, it will not be hard to get a bid. However, it will be more difficult at some houses. A few that I know of almost require having someone in the chapter pulling for you. I was out of state, didn't know a soul, and had an amazing time at recruitment. But on pref day I was dropped from a couple top houses that I loved. I have since come to realize that those houses got pledge classes that are full of St. Louis/Missouri/Illinois people who had connections in the houses. I ended up in a very well respected and competitive house that I adore, and I have noticed that my pledge class is full of out of state girls. It may not seem like it would make a difference, but being surrounded by girls who are also away from home and didn't know anybody at first is really nice. It gives you something in common with them, and leads to a lot of fun conversations. So what I'm trying to say is if a house drops you because you're not from St. Louis and didn't go to high school with the recruitment chair, it is probably for the best. Being one of the only girls who isn't from Missouri might be awkward. Best of luck!

I had the time of my life going through rush and had my pick of houses -- without knowing even one person in a sorority. There are some houses that are very insular and some houses that are a bit more worldly, for lack of a better word. You will know which is which based on your conversations at the houses and back at the dorm during rush. There are St. Louis houses and K.C. house and small-town houses. And while some take pride in getting the best out-of-state girls, there are no houses without any out-of-state girls. So just enjoy yourself and trust your instincts about where you feel most comfortable.

Tri delt takes a lot of St. Louis, especially private schools and Parkway schools
Pi Phi takes a lot of KC, especially St. Teresa's
Chi O takes a lot of Texas and STL
Theta takes a lot of small town Missouri girls
ADPi takes a lot of really random girls
Alpha Phi takes a lot of Chicago girls, more random within KC and STL
DG gets the private school and west county STL girls, lots of Chicago as well
The rest are pretty random or I just don't know many of them to pinpoint a "feeder" area
#5by: Tridelt???
What are you guys talking about?? There's townies, small town Missouri girls, a bunch of Minnesota and Texas girls, a baby from Florida....obviously there's going to be a bunch of STL girls because there's so many STL girls that go to Mizzou but every house, even Tridelt, has a mix of girls from all over the country. Stop trying to act like one house isn't going to take someone just cuz they live a few hours further away.
