social suicide, the bottom tier and zeta

A few years ago when I rushed it was considered social suicide is pledge Phi Mu or Sigma. In fact the only bottom tier house that was acceptable to join was Zeta. The problem with this website is that girls are on a lag and still hold onto previous years stereotypes when in reality, things change faster in real life than they do on here. For example Zeta had prettier girls before SK colonized. After SK got here they sort of changed the dynamic of what the bottom tier could be. Houses like Sigma and Phi Mu started recruited harder to compete with SK and as a result, SK, Sigma and Phi Mu have all improved in looks since SK got here.
The only house that hasn't made an effort to recruit harder to Zeta. And as a result, you've got the girls who might've gone Zeta now joining the other bottom tier houses because it's not such social suicide anymore.
Our greek system is changing and you can prove it with numbers. Less girls dropped this year than the year before, and the year before that. MORE girls are joining bottom tier houses with pride because it's no longer considered social suicide. The thing about the bottom tier is, you've got three houses that are proud to be bottom tier and try to be the best they can, Sigma, Phi Mu and SK. And then you've got one that is still holding onto the glory days of being the best, Zeta, when they're not. And you've got KD now who is delusional about even being bottom tier.

This is so true. I am considered a low tier sorority, and everyday I thank God for placing me there. My sisters are beautiful inside and out and we have a an amazing sisterhood. You are so right, the lowest ranked sororities here are better than the top ones at most universities.

You missed the point, it's not about ranking, it's about effort. What matters is that the bottom tier is finally becoming something that PNM's are comfortable pledging without feeling as though they've failed recruitment somehow. SK, Sigma and Phi Mu are all setting standards for themselves and are trying to improve every year and that is awesome! None of them want to be known as a "leftover" house so they are trying to improve their chapters individually without the prospect of jumping tiers. It's about being the best THEY can be, without focusing on the other houses.
On the flip side, you have houses like Zeta and KD who are content with the status quo they've set and because of that, they are not improving. They are stagnant. OP is saying that when you become complacent as the "hot girl house" of the bottom tier in Zeta's case, or being the "Nice Girl House" like KD, you aren't motivated to improve so in the process you end up doing worse.

You are absolutely correct. And when I am a senior I certainly hope I can be just like you, with nothing better to do than spend the majority of my afternoon making "valid points" on a meaningless website. I couldn't understand your point the first time. It made even less sense the second time. And at this point you are coming across as an aging pathetic soul who gets off on criticizing the underdog when everyone knows they are trying their hardest and doing their best -- with positive results.

This post is 100% true on this site AND in real life. It's been true for at least 2 years, but especially this year. Zeta can continue to get on this site and cling to the old reputation, but in the real world, this house is struggling to keep up with the houses they have always thought they were "better" than. Truth is, zeta isn't at the top of bottom tier anymore, they are solid middle of bottom tier and falling fast. Last year, phi mu challenged to step it up, they outranked zeta. This year, sk outrushed zeta and is now ranked higher. Zeta take some advice and stop worrying about where you rank, bc houses keep passing you by. I'm not sure what zeta is even known for anymore besides "being psycho." That's not good. Work on grades. Work on involvement. Work on making relations with other houses. Work on SOMETHING productive.!

Four posts in 30 minutes. Our pathetic little senior has been a busy, busy girl, hasn't she? I guess it proves that if you are petty and vindictive, you're never too old to bash Zeta. I give zeta credit though, not rising to the bait the way a Kappa would. Kappas would be all over these posts.

Before you know it Zeta is going to start blaming sororities we don't even have on this campus. It must be nice to be so impossibly delusional that you can convince yourself any criticism you get is out of spite or jealousy.
Sadly the "she's probably bitter we cut her" routine only works on houses that girls want to pledge. My house has at least twenty Zeta legacies in our fall pc. If you can't even snag your legacies then what can you do?

I think it's important to rank the effort of the bottom tier because the stigma of being bottom tier has sort of been absolved ever since these houses began showing effort. I rushed four years ago and the bottom tier was a laughing stock. Nobody would be caught dead pledging the bottom tier if they could help it. But since some of the bottom tier houses have shown an effort more girls are pledging the bottom tier. Less girls drop out of recruitment, more girls pledge and it makes the entire greek system stronger as a result. The only houses that do not make our greek system stronger are the ones that don't try. So that's why I would criticize them, they drag the entire greek system down. I don't want Zeta or KD or any other houses to not put forth effort because then they'll become the new stigmatized house and all the progress we've made is erased.
All of our houses need to be trying to improve themselves constantly. Otherwise we're no different than other social clubs on campus. That's the only reason I would personally criticize a house that doesn't try. It's not catty and petty, it's an observation I have that I think has validity.
