hazing

by:

What kind of hazing did DG get in big trouble for years ago? I've heard about it but I am wondering what they actually did..

The same stuff they do now. They got in trouble because there were girls reporting it. They still continue to haze, it just isn't reported to nationals.

Way to answer your own set up question. That was years ago, just let it go.

They still haze. As do many other chapters.

Whatever. The hazing issue with DG was that girls were feeling forced to drink. That was it. They may still feel pressure and call that hazing, but you don't have to do anything you don't want to and nobody is gonna kick you out for it. So if you wanna call it hazing, go ahead, but nobody is forcing anyone to do anything.

I don't know for sure what happened a few years ago, but it was not just forcing girls to drink. If that was the case then my freshman year DG roommate, who always went out and drank on the weekends, wouldn't come back to the room sobbing after late night new member meetings. And she wouldn't have asked me if I was being hazed and seemed surprised when I said no.

I do know that when they got in trouble a second time a year or two ago part of it was because they were making girls take shots and run up and down the stairs at a frat party, and one of the guys turned them in.

None of us have ever been hazed or have even come close to it. We have been welcomed very warmly, and I love my new sisters. I'm very happy with my house!

Babe I don't know if DG hazes or not but it's only September. You're not in the clear until after initiation. Not a bad idea to keep your head on a swivel.

Houses that I personally know girls that have been hazed (and some dropped after): DG, pi phi, chi o, delta, Gphi

My friend that is an ex pi phi wouldn't tell me what happened but apparently it was bad and she claimed the hazing problem is one of the reasons pi phi doesn't have a good sisterhood.

My cousin is a chi o. They are very secretive on their rituals. She was hazed, but acted like it was no big deal which kind of tells me it was "all in good fun" and not demeaning or abusive.

Gphi hazing is mostly being forced to drink. Several years ago it also consisted of more, including swallowing goldfish at SAEs "get tanked" parties

Axo in the early 2000s was turned in for hazing and it took them a very long time to recover. Apparently they were a very good house in the 80-90s and when they were caught hazing they were forced to make all their current members go alum, and weren't allowed to formally recruit for a year. They're only now just bouncing back. Same thing with DG. They were a top 3 house, got caught for hazing, and went straight to low mid tier if not bottom tier. I believe they will work their way back up like axo did but ONLY if they quit hazing! It's only a matter of time before another member reports being hazed. The problem isn't a wide spread house thing anymore, but there are still many many members that will haze their new members.

AXO was NOT a top house in the 80's/90's. My aunt was at Mizzou then, and they were definitely not a top house then.

AXO was never caught hazing in the early 2000s. All the members did not go alum. Never have they missed participating in formal recruitment. Not allowing a sorority to participate in formal recruitment is not a sanction for hazing per Mizzou Greek Life rules and National Panhellenic Council rules. There are other sanctions for hazing. In the past 20 years only one sorority at Mizzou skipped a formal recruitment - it was their decision. That was Alpha Phi, who put their members on alum status and then recruited differently. It was a great decision by them to do so.

I dont get why sorority hazing is seen as such a big deal...Basically every fraternity on campus hazes and brotherhood seems to be strong. Maybe hazing new members could actually be a good thing to bring girls closer though shared experiences

Agreed, more sororities should haze

You can bring the girls closer together through programming and sisterhood retreats. Honestly, I hope neither of you are in my house because hazing is dangerous and abusive. If you can't make your sisterhood strong without hazing then there's something wrong with you.
