tiers

by: Panhel Unity

NEWS FLASH! There are NO such thing as tiers! They don't exist and literally mean nothing. You all sound so dumb trying to defend who is "top tier"and who isn't. Every chapter at Mizzou is amazing and as Sorority Women we should be holding ourselves to a higher standard and refrain from talking about made up tiers and putting other Chapters down. If you don't agree then you are straying away from what the Panhellenic Association stands for and don't belong in this amazing community of outstanding women. Shame on you.

So I guess everyone is amazing except those who think there are tiers, right?

If you want proof the tiers are real take one look at homecoming pairing. When was the last time Phi Mu was paired with Beta by choice? Never. Because tiers are real. Some houses are popular, some aren't. And it doesn't matter, but you can't say they aren't real.

I understand Beta doesn't do homecoming but you get the picture, top frats pair with top sororities, etc.

If you go onto the Mizzou IFC or PHA website does it list chapters in order of tier? No, it does not. Therefore no, they are not real nor important, nor do they have any impact on the quality of the chapter as a whole. The term tier was made up years ago by some catty girls who wanted to list their chapter as top. It dumb and stupid and makes all sorority girls sound like the stereotypical bimbos that they are portrayed as. Do you really want to be the sorority girl who only cares about popularity (I mean, this isn't high school, come on..) or do you want to be the sorority WOMAN who is intelligent, involved, fun, and kind? Sororities are about so much more and it's time Mizzou realizes that.

What an idealistic and fascinating greek system you're in. Too bad it's not the way it really works. Being in a house that is popular leads to better mixers, better pairings, you win more in comps, etc.

Yes, you can and will have a meaningful experience in any house. You'll make friends in any house. You'll have a blast in any house. But saying there aren't tiers is just a bold faced lie. There will always be winners and losers. Sorry you're a loser I guess.

It's harsh to say there are winners and losers and that someone is a loser simply because they don't believe in tiers. However, there are houses that are more selective than others. We all know that. The so-called "top tier" houses (ChiO, Delta, PiPhi, perhaps Theta) get who they want and their pledge classes are made up of women who are both outstanding and who really wanted to be in that house. The bottom tier sororities have more members who, for lack of a better term, didn't sail through rush. But once rush is over, the tiers have absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the sisterhood, and that's what it is really all about. The top tier houses may be more competitive and may have higher grades, but girls can be happy anywhere as long as they find their niche.

^^^^^^^^ That's absolutely true. Finding that niche isn't always easy, but give it some time.

I think this is true, especially in the next few years. More and more girls will be rushing and every house will be getting great girls
