it's 2014

by:

Here it is 2014 and rush is over. For months we have been talking about how selective certain houses are, what high standards the sororities here have and how grades, activities, honors, awards count so heavily. And now, after one of the most successful recruitments in the history of this university, a bunch of WOMEN on this site are ranking houses based on how HOT the pledge class is. REALLY??? I could understand a bunch of pimply drooling freshman guys doing that, but women? And sorority women at that? It's 2014. Aren't we beyond that?

Yes. Exactly this.

You must be new because this happens literally every single year

By: You new?

That doesn't make it right. They probably made comments like that in 1958, too. But this is 2014 and women shouldn't really be judging women exclusively on looks. That's not what rush is about, as anyone who was "grade cut" can tell you. You should know better.

how can anyone talk about how pretty or hot a house was when it was 100 degrees yesterday. And I guarantee you didn't see all 90 pledges from each house!! It looks like to me some of the ones "listed as hot" or "top" are likely behind all this nonsense. Give it a rest.

I'll let that comment slide because you probably just pledged but the reason we know who got the hot pledge classes is because we were all rushing the same girls. We know what you all look like, we saw you most of the week. We stalked you on social media all summer so we saw you at your best in your pictures. I know where my favorite girls went that my house didn't get and I know who got the duds my house cut.

Could you use some common sense please? You're in college now, this is how the system works. It's superficial. You knew that before you joined.

Okay so you remember all 92 pnms and know exactly what chapters they pledged for each sorority? That's pretty creepy but I have to applaud your memory...

By: Ya ok
by: Rush

How does your house rush girls "Ya ok?" Do you just wait for them to show up during recruitment because my house does the same thing "Social Media" does. We FB/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr stalk all the PNMs we can find. We scour rec letters. It's pretty common.

Two days ago we were judging women on how well-rounded they are and what they can contribute to our sisterhood. And suddenly it's just about looks? This is so insulting.

Greek life is superficial. Always has been, always will be.

Speak for yourself. There is nothing superficial abut my house, its traditions, its standards and the love we have for our sisters.

Then you must be bottom tier. My bad, I forgot quality didn't matter to some houses.

You woke up early every morning for rush to put on your makeup and do your hair, you and all your sorority sisters had coordinated outfits for the entire week, you decorated your house to look nice.

What about that isn't superficial? I'd really love to know how your house manages to put on a successful rush without having any superficial aspects to it.

How is getting up in the morning, putting on makeup and making your house look nice superficial? Don't most of us do that every day? So what if outfits were coordinated? That's how it's done. Day in and day out we are a sisterhood. We care about each other and we prop each other up. I am closer to many of my sorority sisters than I am to my real sister. If that's not important to you, then don't bother going Greek. But don't insult the rest of us who have found something special in our houses, regardless of tiers.

The system is designed to be superficial. If it wasn't, then we wouldn't spend a week tweaking minuscule details so that our rush was perfect during work week. I don't see the logic in your argument. If it wasn't superficial then we'd be rushing girls while wearing our own clothes, hair up, no makeup, no chants, no skits, etc.

Rush is flashy. You're trying to impress the girls. IT'S SUPERFICIAL. Learn the meaning of the word.

I kind of don't think "flashy" and "superficial" are synonymous. And if all you had were superficial conversation during rush, god help you.

I heard it was like 91-ish? Sigma is the only house that didn't make quota but they took under quota on purpose so they would be eligible for COB.

Still hearing about how hot - or not hot - pledge classes are. Can't for the life of me figure out why hotness matters to other women.

It matters a LOT to many of the members of ADPi and Sigma.

Recruitment can be superficial because we don't get a chance to know you well enough beyond the surface, but our sisterhoods are NOT. We laugh, cry and help each other through college. This is what sisterhood is all about. We try to look our best during recruitment and so do the PNM's. It's all about first impressions and that is true throughout life.

^^^^^^ Like. Except I don't think it's all that superficial. It's not as if we are judging just on looks. We know PNMs' grades, class rank, ACT score, whether they sing opera or excel at the high jump, whether they volunteered with dying kids or started their own business, whether they grew up 1,000 miles away or down the street. I think we do a pretty good job of finding out the big picture before we make a decision. Now, perhaps it's purely superficial stuff at some houses, but not at mine.
