what is a cob?

Do some research. It means continuous open bidding. It's for sororities who don't make quota of girls that they want in their sorority

Unless the whole trops thing ruins their recruitment...

I doubt pnms really care about that.

Continuous Open Bidding (COB) is also used for chapters to reach TOTAL. Total at Mizzou = average chapter size. That number is calculated every year ater formal recruitment. After formal recruitment in 2013, it was 288. So any chapter which had fewer than 288 members any time during the 2013-2014 school year could add new members if they chose to do so. With so many PMs this year, Total likely will increase. Since most chapters at Mizzou meet Quota, likely only a handful of chapters will be below Total after formal recruitment, thus eligible to COB. Those would be the chapters which are smaller in number right now. Even though they may meet Quota during formal recruitmet (or miss it by a few) they may be below Total.

Does the quota for formal recruitment increase with the number of PNMs rushing?

ADPi is a solid house that's hard to get into. They're never going to be the "hot" house or the "party" house, but they get a good choice of PNMs, and they're picky cause they're so competitive. They COB'd a couple of years ago, I think, but unless they lose girls to transferring or financial problems, it would be pretty unlikely for them to do that on a regular basis. So don't count on it.

My roommate in Lathrop COB'd to ADPi and likes it. COBing is not some "taboo" thing like people make it out to be. With 90+ girls in a pledge class and many majors/schools at MU being nearly impossible to get into (Nursing, OT, PT, Accounting, etc.) many girls are forced to switch universities. Or, some girls simply can't afford sorority life and once they've completed the first two years, made friends, lived in the house, etc. they drop. COB is not a bad thing. But, I also wouldn't stress about getting into ADPi. They have a certain stereotype that many, many PNMs don't like. I don't know that many people who are upset if/when cut by ADPi.

ADPi is one of the most selective houses. Yes, they have a certain type of girl, but their standards are extremely high and they have a vey strong sisterhood. And so is their rate of return. I think it is unlikely they will CO, but if they do, they would selectively take just a few girls, which is just about the same as not COBing. I was an ADPi legacy, was cut and dropped out of rush. But I stll have a lot of respect for this house.

Not that unlikely. They probably won't take a ton of girls, but they seem to COB more often than other "top tier" houses

I agree. Not unlikely.
