Hi I was wondering how hard is it to get a bid from ZTA or Alpha phi?

Aphi would be harder. Aphi is an upper mid tier house. Zeta is easier because they're a low bottom tier house. Unfortunately for zeta recently they haven't been able to keep new members, no one is quite sure why but the assumption is that they are struggling. Zeta at this point will have to take anyone willing to join just to raise their numbers, they won't be able to be selective at all during recruitment this year. Not good.

There is so much about the above post that just isn't true. First of all, Alpha Phi is improving, but it is not at the top of the middle tier. Its members are nice and often pretty, but their grades are a disaster and it's a pretty one-dimensional house. Second, Zeta's retention problems aren't any worst than Sigma, Phi Mu, SK etc. And they are struggling less than any time in the past five years. Can't imagine why someone would say those things.

Why is ZTA struggling with numbers? Does ZTA focus more on grades?

Zeta had to cob over 20 girls which is unheard of for an established house on campus. That tells me something is very wrong going on in the house if they are having to fill that many spots. I wouldn't say zeta focuses on grades, they have had better grades recently, but their grade history is really poor. I would say aphi and zeta are ranked equally in the world of academics, neither have really anything to show.

Nice try, but it's public information, zeta. Please refer to spring grades 2014 on the Mizzou Greek life website where it also lists how many members and NEW members for spring 2014. Put that in your juice box and suck it!

Hey girlie! I'm so happy you're interested in zeta! It is seriously the best decision I have ever made :) anyways, every year we lose a large amount of girls from the junior class die to finances. the girls have already lived in and made their lifelong friends so stretching themselves to make dues is not a priority anymore.

EVERY sorority loses some girls after they no longer live in the house. EVERY SORORITY. Is it a loyalty issue? Perhaps. But more likely there are practical reasons, like finances. If you already are living in an apartment with your best friends and you are pushed to the limit financially, living out of town while you do internships or practicums or just really strapped for time once you get deep into your major, your sorority might not be your top priority. And it's not just a problem with Zeta. The problem with Zeta is that they were honest about it, giving catty Greekrank trollers the opportunity to pounce.

That's what she said, EVERY house loses girls over the years, but it's abnormal to lose THAT many. 1-2 drop for finances each semester = normal. Having to replace 20 girls? Very abnormal. I definitely agree something else is going on in the zeta house tht they are trying to hide before recruitment

I mean when you think about it, that's only 5 girls from every pledge class of 80 something. Houses like kappa and chi o recruit girls who are the whole package plus come from money. Bottom tier houses do not have that luxury..

If you would like to be stuck in sorority world for the rest of your life have at it. But I'm sorry I really don't care much about being loyal to an organization who takes all my money and all I get in return after sophomore year are tshirts. Great, I don't have an extra 4000 dollars for two more years for tshirts and homecoming. I just don't and nor do many others. I can think of so many more useful things I can get from that money. I already have my lifelong friends and I have already lived in a nice big house with them. So now I would like to spend my member dues on things other than tshirts. And we usually have to pay for those too so basically I'm just handing money to the house just to say I'm still affiliated. It's bs and I don't have that money. Sorry for not being "loyal" I'm just poor.

Tiers here are not the same as strength in recruitment. One simply does not equal the other.

With a good GPA and extra curriculars, either house is relatively easy to get into. Alpha Phi might be a little harder because they're trying to tier jump currently so they are probably going to focus on looks a lot. However neither house has a super high GPA cut so if your GPA is great then that will always help.

If all Alpha Phi thinks it has to do to tier jump is rush for looks, that's not gonna cut it. While every top house has attractive girls, they have much more to offer than that. If you rush exclusively for looks, you don't wind up in the top tier, you wind up like Gamma Phi.
