The Mizzou Sigma Kappa website says it has been on campus since 1968. While it originally came to this campus in 1968, it has come and gone and now is Mizzou's newest sorority, having just become active again. I really think their website is misrepresenting who they really are. They are a new house on campus with all of the struggles that involves. They owe it to PNMs to be honest.

Lots of us care. By saying they have been on this campus since 1968 they are indicating they have 40+ years of history in Greektown, which is not the case. They tried and failed twice before colonizing again. I would think Phi Mu, Sigma, Kappa Delta and even Zeta would object to this misrepresentation.

So you're saying you're in one of the bottom houses? Because seriously, no one else cares. Stop being petty and let the PNMs go through recruitment and figure things out themselves

Does the Alpha Phi website say they almost got shut down and their Nationals forced them to to re-recruit an entirely new chapter because they sucked so hard?

Does the Phi Mu website say they've left and come back like SK did?

Does the ADPi website say they were kicked out of Greek Week?

Does the DG website say they are a known hazing house?

You know, because I think it's fair the PNM's know the truth. Seriously nobody cares, every house has some crap and honestly if we're comparing baggage I don't think SK's is even close to the worst.

But they came here in 1968. That's the truth. Would you rather neglect years of sigma kappa history at Mizzou?

They have a sordid history at this school. They came and went and came and went because they couldn't sustain a chapter here. The reality is that they are no different from any other sorority that might have colonized here two years ago. And that's a lot different than one house getting caught drinking during Greek Week (unlike all the other houses that drank but didn't get caught) or a house having been caught hazing (which is public knowledge on the Panhel website) and paying the penalty. Let's be honest. SK is pretending it has a rich and successful history at this school and IT DOESN"T.

I don't think putting the actual date they came to Mizzou is pretending. Get over yourself. I'm not saying they aren't bottom tier

If a PNM can't figure out for themselves that the house is the newest on campus then they shouldn't be rushing. It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out that they are new. All you have to do is ask the girl standing next to you. People talk. We all already know. No need to go berserk on here just because omg you have to call them out for lying. It's not a big deal what something on a website says. We already know.

Sordid history? You make it sound like they got caught murdering someone or something. They were here and left along with a lot of other houses like AOII, AGD and several other houses when Greek Life in general on this campus was on the decline and they left the second time because their Nationals were going through upheaval and didn't care about the chapters individually. Neither of those things are SK's fault.

SK does have a rich history at this school. Just because they've left and had to come back does not mean you can wipe away all those years girls pledged SK here. You realize that's what you're doing, right? All those years you're choosing to ignore were full of girls who picked SK as their home away from home, made the best friends of their lives and became a part of something bigger.

I think it's petty what you're doing. SK is back and if your house is threatened by them you should focus on just being better, not tearing them down.

You're acting like being the newest house = being the worst house and that's not always the case. It might surprise you but SK might appeal to certain PNMs who are uncertain about rushing. That's why I joined KD, it seemed less hardcore then Chi-O or Kappa. I loved all of the top tiers houses but I didn't feel like I belonged and houses like KD, Sigma, SK and others have their place being the more relaxed sort of greek house. Why are you hating on them?

Exactly!! I have a lot of friends in sk and it seems like some of them even like that it's new

Hey OP....STOP!!
WHO CARES?!? Besides your insecure nitpicking tattling self?
Really pathetic.
This is the way every Panhellenic chapter at every campus lists their founding date regardless of recolonizing so again STOP being a Drama Pot Stirring girl!!
They are a nice group of girls and we wish them nothing but the best and a successful Rush. We are ALL better when each house does well.
Grow Up.

It seems the SKs monitor this site like crazy. They show up regularly and in all personas. The reality is that they are the newest house on campus and to say they have been here since 1968 is a lie. Now, SKs can justify it all they want, but right is right and wrong is wrong. They are misrepresenting themselves and if they have just one journalism major in the house she could rewrite that portion in about 4 minutes. "Originally colonizing at the University of Missouri in 1968, the chapter is currently the newest on campus, having recolonized in 2012..." That's how you talk about both your history and your present in just one handy sentence. They intended to misrepresent themselves, but they aren't fooling anyone except gullible PNMs.

Look, if I were a PNM I would rather join a new house on campus than a house that has been caught hazing or something. SK is not misrepresenting themselves, it is common knowledge that they've been here twice and left. And what does that matter right now?

Not a single PNM pledges a house based on the "rich history" a house has. Nobody does that. They look forward for the next four years. Do they like the girls. Do they fit in.

If you were trying to make SK look pathetic, you've failed. Nobody cares except you because you keep coming back here and stalking this thread like a psychopath. Let it gooooooooooo.

You seem to think just one person objects, but I replied in support of the o.p., so there are at least two of us and probably more. Obviously YOU care, too, so that makes three -- and likely many more -- who care enough to chime in. And do you really believe that no one pledges a house because of its past? Really? That's one of the stupidest things I have ever read. No one knows what will happen going forward, but a house that has a "rich history," as someone said, who has established itself on campus and who has been here in good times and bad is much more likely to be around in the future, unlike SK that seems to come and go on a whim. I chose my house because, among other things, 1) it is beautiful 2) it has a history of success 3) it attracts great girls year after year after year 4) I felt comfortable and wanted. Its past helps make it what it is. And I couldn't be more proud to be a member of a house that has been, and always will be, a pillar of Mizzou's Greek community with a fine and meaningful tradition. SK doesn't have that yet, and it needs to stop pretending it does.

I agree. It takes effort and devotion and commitment and organization and support and all kinds of things to have staying power as a sorority on this campus. Do you want to be in a house that is one of the backbones of the Greek system or one that has been around only a couple of years with spotty support from its national? I know what I chose and my house's history means the world to me.
