tattoos & formal recruitment
by: macI will be a freshman this fall, and have recently started a large tattoo on my arm. Does the Greek system have anything for or against tattoos? I have a moderately high GPA, recommendation letters, and experience in volunteer work, but will my tattoos prevent me from getting a bid?

#3by: Yeah...
The tattoo isn't really the issue anymore, you've made yourself look bad on this website by being a bit bratty, abrasive and a little entitled. Plus you've given us all an identifier which a lot of girls don't have, a giant arm tattoo honoring a dead relative.
You came here with a loaded question trying to get us to tell you something you already knew the answer to. Will a tattoo like that stop you from getting a job? Probably. And it will stop you from getting a bid, at least to a good house.
You're gonna get cut from the top tier and most of the middle tier just for these antics. Nobody deserves to be Greek, we all earned it. And your attitude isn't helping you right now. My advice? Get off this website and hope people forget this thread happened.

I had no intention of coming off as a stuck-up psycho or brat. I just wanted a straightforward answer. It's crazy to me how people can judge someone so easily before speaking with them. It is now very clear to me how superficial the Greek system can be. I will gladly enjoy my GDI life.
#8by: No worries
I love tattoos :) I think they're a great way to express yourself. I never judge based on a tattoo. I have a lot of tattoos! I'm in a top house as well. You should absolutely rush. If a house cuts you for a tattoo so be it they aren't worth your time and are small minded. I know my house would absolutely take the time to get to know you and the story behind your tattoo. It's an art and a form of expression. Just because you're in a sorority doesn't mean you have to hush up all your expressions and look like cookie cutter Barbie dolls wearing lily and oversized shack shirts. Don't sweat it and please don't listen to what these superficial ladies are saying to you. Not everyone that is Greek are like the girls on here. If you are worried though, perhaps wear a cardigan into some houses so they can't judge you based on a tattoo. Let them learn about you and get to like you then reveal your tattoo towards the end and see if they're real or superficial. I wish you the best of luck and hope you still decide to rush.

Most of us are individuals. Most of us have a mind of our own. Most of us are smart, attractive and forward-thinking. And by far the majority of us know that a tattoo is just plain tacky. The thing is, when you parade that big ol' honkin' tattoo around campus and you are wearing our letters, you represent all of us. That's why we will respectfully decline to have you join our ranks.

But seriously every single sorority has someone who has seen this thread by now and the second you walk into the house it will be obvious who you are. We've cut girls we found out were running their mouths on here before rush. And even though girls were rude to you about the tattoo, you didn't come across as a gracious or understanding person either. I'd even say conceited. So honestly, some girls will hate your tattoo and some will think it's awesome but no one wants to bid the girl outing herself and talking back on GreekRank before she even stepped foot on campus.

There's no need to be rude. It is a simple and valid question. Tattoos don't mean a thing in my chosen career path, and my ability to work has nothing to do with the art on my body. If I am being judged solely on the fact I have tattoos, and not by my achievemfs, kind-hearted nature, or even my hard 8 appearance, then I absolutely do not want to be your sister. That materialistic attitude won't get you anywhere in life.
