3.545 gpa, a few rec letters and a gphi legacy?
by: oliviamiz
I'm coming into freshman fall rush with a 3.545 GPA, and I'm a GPhi legacy. Although Im coming in with an open mind, (well, trying to), Im more interested in Chi Omega and AdPi rather than Gphi. I have a rec letter for ChiO, and two for DG's.
I guess what im trying to ask is do you think i measure up to Chi O standards so far, like is my GPA and one rec letter okay? How hard is Chi O to get into?
also, how much meaning does being a legacy hold for GPhi.
sorry, that was a long one. Thanks!

KEEP AN OPEN MIND!! You will be surprised by how much your ideas will change. I rushed Chi O informally because I knew a lot of girls and the president all summer and the first day during rush realized it wasn't for me at all! They are a great house, undoubtedly, but if you go into rush with picks you will be disappointed. I am also a Gphi legacy and keep them in mind as well!
do not stress out, you sound prepared but open your mind to other potential houses. We are all different and fabulous in different ways.

There still is time to get more letters of recommendations. I know the top houses factor them in when they are considering who to ask back. A rec can say so much more than just the official recruitment form. Ask your mom's friends and those who already have written a rec for you if they know women from other sororities who might write a rec for you. Then get your resume together and HAND DELIVER it to these women so that they can meet you and talk with you before writing a rec based on the information in your resume (class rank, honors, interests, etc). I know it will help at ChiO, PiPhi, Kappa, ADPi, Theta.

And, yes, keep an open mind. The most foolish thing anyone can do is make up their mind before seeing all of the houses. That's like buying a pair of shoes that you must wear for long periods of time without trying them on. The reason rush works so well is that you have a chance to visit the houses you will be choosing from several times. Ultimately it winds up being a subjective decision. You just go with your gut feeling -- and, trust me, sometimes you will be VERY surprised at what that feeling is. But there's a reason for it. Learn to trust yourself. And give the process a chance.

I was also a GPhi legacy (my Mom attended MU in the late 80's) I LOVED Gphi during Recruitment, but was cut before 7 party day. Like most houses, being a legacy typically only gets you one invite back. I was devastated but went on to pledge AChiO and now couldn't see myself anywhere else. Like everyone says - KEEP AN OPEN MIND and don't rely on recs or legacy status. It will all work out. :)
