rush

by: A

I'm planning on rushing as a freshman in the fall. I'm a Tri Delt legacy & a GPhi legacy with a 3.19 gpa, does that mean either one of them would offer me a bid? I think I would fit in and get along with girls in both of the houses, so even if my gpa is a little low would they look past that since i'm a legacy and (from what it seems like) I fit into their house?

Nah both Tri Delt and Gphi love legacies

The comment by OK was super sarcastic and rude, like most of the info. on this site. As a Tri-Delt, who was a double legacy (Mom & Grandma) and as someone who has many GPhi friends, I can tell you the positives and negatives. For one, both houses seem to attract similar girls (many girls end up preffing our houses #1/#2 - I did, along w/Pi Phi.) Both of our houses will invite legacies back a 2nd time, but there are no guarantees. Make sure your references indicate that you are a legacy to TriDelt & GPhi. Also, our houses (TriDelt & GPhi) get along very well and do an annual formal together called TriPhi. You would be very happy in either house and it is a neat feeling (especially on initiation) being a legacy. Honestly, a 3.1 is cutting it close (I think both houses cut at 3.3) BUT if you click with the girls, there are grade exceptions. I wish you the best of luck!

The problem with being a Delta legacy is that Delta is so big nationally, that there are SO MANY Delta legacies. They don't have as much value as a legacy to a house that is smaller nationally.

Sigma legacies are a huge deal because Sigma is a very small sorority nation wide. Sigma Kappa is the same way. Houses like Delta, Delta Gamma or KKG have a lot of girls who happen to be legacies because they're so big.

It matters much more how long a house has been on this campus instead of how big a house is nationally. As a big state university, Mizzou attracts many more legacies whose parents went to this school than to random out-of-state schools. There are lots of Sigma, SK and Phi Mu chapters all around the country, but the fact that they have been on this campus a much shorter time than the major sororities (ChiO, PiPhi, Theta, Delta etc.) means there won't be as many legacies of college age going through rush this year. I know some of the major houses could fill entire pledge classes just with legacies, but they would never want to. That's why it just doesn't mean much to be a PiPhi, Theta, Delta, ChiO legacy.

One more thing: GPhi might take you with a 3.1 gpa, but the top houses likely wouldn't. People who get mediocre grades in high school generally do even worse in college. Someone with a 3.1 would be a serious grade risk.

I would look at some lower tier houses that are similar to delta and gphi as back up options. APhi is becoming a very strong chapter here and does not have a GPA requirement. DG has had some problems over the years but I think they will still be able to bounce back! Both options would be great!

DG and APhi are two houses that are a bit lower on the totem pole that still have very similar girls to Delta and DG. Delta and APhi are more closely linked, DG and GPhi are the partiers. If you don't get into either of those houses you should check out APhi and DG.

How on Earth do you end up with a 3.1 in high school?! If you did that bad in high school good luck even breaking 3.0 in college

Okay you need to take a seat. 3.1 isn't perfect, but not everyone has as great of a grade standard as you do. 3.1 is not bad it's okay or decent enough and definitely not just satisfactory. Consistently getting B's in high school would give you a 3.0. Since when are B's bad. Give her a break

Someone with a 3.1 got just about as many C's as they did A's. I don't know about your school, but in my school getting a C was like getting an F. In order to get into National Honor Society at my school you had to be in the top 25% of the class and that meant having a 3.7 or higher. A 3.1 wouldn't even be the top half of the class where I'm from. Someone who didn't care enough about grades in high school and got a 3.1 is destined to be a grade risk. No top tier houses want to take a grade risk.
