How hard is it to get a bid at Mizzou? Do most girls who go through recruitment get a bid?

Statistically only 1/4 of the girls that rush will end up joining a house. However, the reason for this isn't because they all get cut. Most of the girls that don't join houses drop rush themselves all together because they decide Greek life isn't for them, they didn't get asked back to houses they wanted so they drop or they suicide for one house on pref day and that house doesn't pick them. Getting a bid to houses like delta, theta, chi o, kappa gphi and pi phi are the hardest because so many want to go back. Many girls will just drop if they don't get asked back to any of those houses....never do this. It's so ridiculous and shallow. You're in college now not high school.

Do a lot of girls get cut by all of the houses?

While a significant percentage of girls who go through rush wind up not joining a house, I'm not sure the above statistic is accurate. If 1,700 go through rush and there are 15 sororities that take perhaps and average of 70 girls each for a total of 1,050 girls, that's 61% who DO get a bid. Let's not be more discouraging than necessary.

In 2013, 71% of all women who showed up to open house got a bid. 89% of all women who signed their MRABA got a bid. Almost all of the 11% who signed but did not get a bid failed to maximize their options. ( They only listed one or two houses instead of all they attended.). Almost all of those who didn't sign at all dropped out voluntarily because they didn't like the houses that invited them back.

It's not unheard of to be cut from all of the houses, but it doesn't happen often. Horrible grades might get you cut, but if you can carry on a conversation and present yourself in a nice manner, you will probably get a bid somewhere.

It's been said many times on this website, but it bears repeating. As you go through the process, you have to decide first and foremost if Greek life is what you really want. If it is, there probably will be a place for you. It is VERY difficult to get a bid to one of the top houses (Delta, PiPhi, ChiO), but there is more to Greek life than just being a member of a top house. EVERY HOUSE participates in homecoming decs, EVERY HOUSE participates in Greek Week, EVERY HOUSE has socials, and, most important of all, EVERY HOUSE is full of girls who have the potential to be the kind of lifelong friends you will treasure forever. The top houses don't have a monopoly on that. So if Greek is what you want to be, enjoy the process and see where it takes you. At best, you will wind up exactly where you want to be. At worst you will learn a lot about yourself. And, somewhere in the middle is a fun and rewarding way to spend the best four years of your life.

Thanks for that. It's so true. When I went through rush two years ago I had made an objective decision before I even went to the first party that I wanted to be part of Greek Life at this school. My grandmother was in a sorority, my mother was, my aunts were, my older sister is. It's funny, but I was a legacy at a bunch of houses and am not in ANY of them now. But I found a house that is perfect for me and I couldn't be happier. It's not top tier according to this website, but it's top tier to me and I wear my letters proudly.

Most girls who don't get bids are because they drop out or suicide. If you maximize your options, you will get a bid. It might not be your first choice but VERY few girls get cut across the board on Bid Day.

Aren't you guaranteed a bid if you make it to pref and rank every house you have left? Or are there instances of girls getting cut _after_ pref?

You're not guaranteed a bid. My roommate was a Pi Chi last year, recruitment counselor, and she had to make a few calls to girls who got cut from all three of their pref day houses. It is very, very uncommon but just because you make it to Friday does not mean you will get a bid.

However don't worry about that. Be yourself, be friendly, CLEAN UP YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA and have fun. Don't worry about not getting a bid. It is very uncommon.
