juniors?

by: Juniors?

Is it even possible for a junior to rush and do well? I have a lot of friends encouraging me to do formal recruitment but I hear that it's even difficult for sophomores who rush. I have a high GPA and am very involved in volunteering. In no way am I a risk to any chapter, but I still have a feeling that I might be at such a disadvantage that none of that will matter.

Is it unheard of? Does your house cut juniors? (you don't have to mention which house you are if you don't want to)

ADPi took a junior last year. It's not unheard of but it's rough. I rushed as a junior as well and went from fifteen houses to three houses by Wednesday, I only had Kappa, Phi Mu and Zeta after the first round of cuts, but my GPA was just average . You have a shot, just realize that you will be cut just for being a junior in some houses.

Juniors are a bad financial investment for houses. Instead of getting four years of dues we only get two before you graduate (harsh, but true). Taking upperclassmen also hurts long term retention because they graduate so quickly your house has to either COB or take bigger freshmen pledge classes the next year to make up for losing members. My house took a junior in my pledge class but only because she was a legacy.

I would still encourage you to rush if it's something you absolutely want to do, but know if houses don't cut you it probably isn't personal, just them looking out for their long term retention and financial stability.

Juniors do not count against quota. If your grades are high, you are involved and have a good reputation with the sorority members you know, you will get a bid.

Has Mizzou implemented an upperclass quota and not told anyone? Because juniors have never been free additions, and do count as part of quota. I really wish we had a separate upperclass quota like every other good system out there, but unless it's new this year, we do not.

Does anyone know for sure the policy on juniors and quota? Thanks for all of your responses and help, I just want to be sure of the policy if I decide to rush! :)

Juniors do not count towards quota. However, houses rarely take juniors because a junior would be entering into a pledge class of all freshman, and probably won't be able to live (or want to live) in the sorority senior year. Also, houses would rather take underclass men bc of the commitment financially. A sorority is also a business and they make more money signing people for 4 years, instead of only 2

Juniors are not free. They do count towards quota. Unless the person who is saying otherwise can point us to a change in policy for this upcoming year, they have always counted toward quota. I'm not discouraging you from signing up! But I don't want you to have false hope about juniors not counting. Mizzou has a single quota system and no one is "free" or otherwise outside of the quota system.

They don't count towards quota in my house. I just assumed that was the same policy for all PHA...

Juniors don't count to quota in my house either and I think it's because we take so few that one extra girl every once in awhile, literally it's been three years since we took one, won't matter in the long run.

Simply put, juniors don't rush hardly ever so when they do, most houses won't care if that girl is amazing.
