Should i be worried that my open house video could get me cut? What are early cuts based on?

It's a combination of GPA, resume, and video to determine who fits best to go on to their in person rounds.

And please try to understand that sororities do not have the perspective of looking for who to cut. They do not look at girls to try to find something wrong with them. That is how pnm's see it but it's not the way it really works.

Sororities are looking for who to keep. It's not like 'okay let's see who we need to get rid of'. It is all about 'okay who stands out that we like the most'. Sororities are given an absolute limit on the number they can invite back and this number determines who goes on to the next round for them. Sororities like many more girls each round than they can ask back but the number they are given is what they have to go by. It's all numbers-based and not a personal judgement.

Please try to remember.

That's true for some houses. But for others there are far too many women who would like to be asked back and the sorority can't possibly accommodate all of them. Grade cuts help with many of the preliminary decisions, so once you survive those the house is free to make decisions based on a variety of factors. In our case we look very seriously at what you can offer a house: special talents, honors, awards, geographical diversity, other diversity, etc. The video is part of that mix, but in all honesty we have to cut far more people than we can keep. It's not easy for anyone, but the result is that you likely will wind up exactly where you need to be. Good luck.

What percentage of PNMs are cut the first round on average? How many houses do PNMs get back typically?

College GPA is more important but everything submitted is looked at.

There is not a general overall percentage of PNM's being cut because each individual house has a different number they can take for the next round. For stronger recruiting houses the numbers they can invite back are fewer. Far more PNM's experience cuts at every single round than not. That doesn't mean getting cut completely, it means not getting back houses you were hoping for. Getting a full card does happen but it's not the usual.

Please read this! I’m also rushing this fall and a girl from a top house commented on a post here saying what we already know. You’ll only get a bid if you know someone and if your insta feed looks good lmaooo (atleast from a top house)

this is totally untrue! i came into recruitment completely in the dark, not a legacy, didn’t know a single soul at mizzou. i had an impressive resume which i’m sure helped, but i didn’t try to go for a top house and just wanted to have conversations with the actives to see where i really fit in. on pref day, i got to visit two top houses and had the hardest decision that night! it’s absolutely possible to get a “top house” without knowing anyone, even though i’m sure it helps. i think being authentic is genuinely the best way to go about recruitment. active members can tell if you’re trying to come up with the “right” answer to every question, so try to relax and be yourself! biggest tip: share your passions in your conversations and why you feel so strongly about them, don’t just list off your resume (we have seen it already!), and have fun - you’ll end up where you need to be!
