rush 2014
by: aljskdflI'm transferring as a sophomore this year and I will be rushing in the fall for sororities, are my chances of getting into a house pretty low if I'm a sophomore?

It will be a bit more difficult for you. For some unknown reason, Mizzou does not have an upperclass quota as virtually every other comparably-sized school does. That means that you are in direct competition with the freshmen who can provide 4 years of financial support to the chapter.
It doesn't mean you are doomed. But, do be prepared for heavy cuts that have absolutely nothing to do with your personality, grades, etc. And make sure you go into the process knowing that every house at Mizzou is pretty awesome, regardless of what is said on this site, and that you can have an amazing experience in any of them if you want to.

COB is always done by fewer chapters, taking few women, and often only women that members already know. I would strongly advise against skipping formal recruitment in favor of COB. Keep an open mind and you will be fine.
The system is designed to accept as many women as possible. So long as your grades are ok and you don't say or do anything offensive or exceptionally strange, you'll find a home. It may not have been the home you wanted at the beginning of the week. It may not even be your first choice after pref. Lots of women get their second choice and many get their third. But if you stick with it, you'll do well, and you'll have a lot of fun being part of the Greek community.

DEFINITELY rush!! Some houses take more sophomores than others do but if you attend all of the parties that you are supposed to you will definitely find a sorority for you!
Also if you end up not joining a house after going through formal recruitment you will have a better idea of houses you would be interested in COBing for!

I was wondering about this too. If you're going to be a sophomore and have an average GPA, should you wait and COB spring semester or should you go ahead and rush?
