formal fraternity recruitment.. please answer

so from the perspective of someone already in a fraternity is signing up for formal recruitment actually worth it. Or am I better off to venture and rush informally the first week. Pros? Cons?

If you are from out of state and want a shot at a good house on campus, formal is your best bet. Not many house sign pledges during syllabus week anymore
