Sigma chapter closed

by:

Sigma lost their house for this year because they didnt have enough members to afford a house. Their house has 60ish rooms and they had less than 60 members in total… when normally just the sophomore/junior classes live in.

Alumni received an email that the chapter is closing because they just can’t be sustained any longer.

sigma did not lose their house. True they did not have enough people to fill it, but the reason kd is living there is because their house is getting redone so sigma is renting it to kappa delta to build up some money so they can continue to be a chapter at mizzou. They’re not closing the chapter.

Officially, no we are not closed, yet. But those that are left know we are done. Nationals has been very clear and we might COB but we doubt it. Even if we do, we couldn't even come close to the numbers we need to stay open.

We are happy KD is in our house temporarily. They were the ONLY sorority who would do homecoming with us this year since we needed to be paired because of our numbers. They weren't forced, they agreed to take us when no one else would.

KDs as a whole have been nothing but kind to us. Campus found out from us, not them that they were renting our house this year even though their members knew. We have felt nothing but love from KDs. We know with their new house, their solid sisterhood and the kind, loyal and amazing women they recruit, KD is and will continue be one of the best houses on campus.

Please be kind to us, we tried. It is hard to build a sisterhood competing against 14 solid sororities. It is hard without a name and reputation to grow. We took some amazing women that other houses cut immediately. We gave them a place and home. A sisterhood. We had and still have, a lot to offer.

I'm an alum of a "bottom tier" sorority and just know that we loved Sigma. We loved doing sisterhood events with you all, and you all were amazing friends and loving, wonderful women. It's sad to see a chapter close here, and I hope some miracle pulls through, but we love you!

One thing to remember: Your sorority experience is not just your four years as an undergrad. You will be an alum for the rest of your life, and you will have opportunities to participate in philanthropy, mentoring, and alum net-working for years to come. Sending positive Panhel love.

I really do think the 2020 pandemic caused y’all a lot of damage, that has made it hard to recover to back to a safer point. My cousin was in your MC’16 and she really enjoyed her time in tri sigma and loved the sisterhood regardless of this silly tier system. I wish you the best of luck come bid day, but no mater what happens cherish time, dedications and memories you’ve made with your sisters. Sending you so much love
