can we just admit...

How a sorority or fraternity does in Greekweek or Homecoming has absolutely no bearing on how they do in rush, even though lower tier houses on this site who have a chance at doing well this year continue to insist it does. Have you ever had a conversation with a PNM from Atlanta or Dallas or even K.C. or St.L about Greekweek during rush? I haven't. And if any of those conversations took place the PNMs eyes would glaze over. They don't choose a house because some sorority got lucky with pairings and happened to do OK in some insular little competition. They care whether the girls they meet and talk with are the type of girls with whom they can identify and want to be friends. So what if your cow-y legacy helped your team win at Quizbowl or that your wannabe-athlete junior who hasn't had a date in three years mauled the competition athletically in Greekweek events. Or even if you had some precocious whiz who could set pomping records at Homecoming. It's all about the quality of the girls you recruit and Greekweek matters NOT AT ALL. So pat yourselves on the back, bottom tier, and just keep hoping it matters. In the end, you will still never see the best rushees back at your house as the week progresses in August.

Wow. You're just a nasty person. What lucky sorority claims you as a member?

By: Oh, Wow,

I'm a soccer player and a volleyball player and when I rushed my house sold me hard on the fact that their intramural teams and greek week sports teams always do very well. And as somebody who wouldn't be playing on the school teams, that was important to me.

"They don't choose a house because some sorority got lucky with pairings and happened to do OK in some insular little competition."

You mean the same way that the top tier has been dealt the best pairings for years and years? And what house got fantastic pairing? The only house that really got dealt a lucky pairing was ADPi and they totally blew it for themselves. Sigma Kappa just won Quizbowl with Sig Pi and Phi Delt. What about those two fraternities together screams "lucky pairing" to you?

And the way you're speaking about other greek women is deplorable.

ATO is killing Greek Week by themselves. What about that pairing is lucky?
Kappa Delta too. What about TKE and AEPi is lucky?

Tell me please because we're clearly living on two different planets here.

The bottom tier isn't tearing the top tier apart, there's no gain for them. The top tier and upper middle tier are eating each other alive because they want to jump spots in the tiers.

If no one cares then you wouldn't be on here taliking about it. Must be somewhat important to you or you wouldn't take the time to post about it. Hummmmm

By: No one cares
by: Yup

Remember that group of Thetas that were crying when their pairing got pulled? Or those Kappas that were screaming on the walk back to greek town that their chance to win a third year in a row got blown?

Yeah, tell me again that you guys don't care about greek week.

Everyone knows that they're trying this system out as a test run for HOCO this coming year. And if the bottom tier manages to place you better believe they'll keep the random pairing system in place and then what? Are you guys gonna give up on HOCO too because it's not fair?

Wake up. They let NPHC and SAEPi participate and they're not just going to allow them into GW and then exclude them from HOCO too. The system is changing how things work. I'd advise all the top tier houses to get their acts together because if this quitters attitude carries through to HOCO when the pairings are random again, then it won't be long before you can claim "we compete well" as a selling point for rush.

The original poster is obviously someone who sits on their a-- and does nothing during competitions.

By: Made me laugh
by: Hmmm...

You, of course, are entitled to your opinion. But what about the original post makes it "obvious" that the original poster sits on "their" a-- and does nothing during competitions? For all we know the original poster is competitive as the next person, but was simply pointing out that PNMs give not a whit about Greek Week results. The original poster could have been a Greek Week star, and PNMs STILL wouldn't give a rip.

But literally every until right now all the threads posted are about how ABC and XYZ are killing it and they'll win and of course they will because they're top tier and place every year and they're the best and everyone is hating on them because they're jealous that they're loosing. And then this happens, and all we see is how much greek week doesn't matter. All the normal contenders for placing are just sore losers.

Do you know ANYONE who pledged a house because of how they placed in Greek Week. Be honest. ANYONE??????? If you did, tell us which house and why. I don't recall ever talking about Greek Week all during rush much less having it influence where I pledged. And the funny thing is, I'm in a house that usually does well at these sort of competitions.

By: Do you know...
by: Not directly

I think plenty of people know generally if a house tries in events at all. I don't think many people are itching to join a sorority that's just known for doing terribly in competitions. So I doubt anyone was like of well sorority A placed in GW and B didn't, so I'll cut B and keep A. But I'm sure people kept in mind who tries and who doesn't.

I played volleyball at my high school and we went to state three out of the four years I played and I pledged Kappa. So hearing that they won greek week two years in a row was a big deal for me. I also had ADPi on preference day and they sold me hard on greek week as well because of how involved I was in sports, but I ended up pledging a different house. It did matter to me because sports was my life growing up and it was nice to know I'd be joining a house that had intramural teams I could join and did well in greek week because I don't care about artsy stuff as much as I do sports.

And I understand that most PNM's don't care about greek week but some of us did and when I was trying to decide between two houses that I was really fond of, little things like that can/do sway decisions. I loved the women of Kappa and ADPi but the promise of being able to pledge a house that would likely place in greek week consistently definitely gave Kappa the edge, at least for me.

It's different for everyone. I'm sure if I was more of a partier none of that would've mattered to me and I might've focused more on GPhi or Delta. But they knew what I wanted and made the sell.

Not Directly, how crude can you be? It was a legitimate question. How proud your sisters must be to call you a member. Not.
