greek week top five?
by: So...
I think it's positively embarrassing that Greek Week is thus far being dominated by Phi Mu, Sigma Kappa and ATO. Between the overwhelming defeats in QuizBowl by SK and ATO and the fact that those three houses are top three in the blood drive, I think it's safe to say a lot of "top tier" houses aren't trying at all.
Which as a member of ADPi, I'm appalled at. The fact that some of our top houses are throwing away Greek Week because they're mad about pairings is insane to me. Where's the drive? I'm pissed we lost our chance at GW and I accept the fact that we deserved it, I'd want Steerco to do the same if it was another house, but I'm embarrassed by the lack of effort.
ADPi always gets called "wannabes" and "upper middle tier" and I've accepted that because of how competitive the other top tier houses were. But the moment you girls get dealt an unfair pairing, the sort of pairing that other houses like my own and the bottom tier get dealt all the time, you shut down and stop trying.
Pathetic.

I think AXO, Phi Mu, and Sigma Kappa will all place this year. And they deserve it given their effort so far. They're working well with their pairing and getting the job done. I guess houses that get their 1st choice for pairing every year don't know the struggle of being lower and middle tier houses. It's all about getting along regardless of your stereotype or if you party with said house. I feel for ya ADPI, though. I respect you girls so much.

I'll out myself as an ADPi senior right now and say that I'm upset we lost our chance to compete this year because, let's face it, our pairing was the best one in the group. And it does make me a little upset that some houses have decided not to try because they think it's unfair they got a bad pairing.
I dunno, I think it's funny that when the bottom tier complains they can't do their best because of the fraternities they get paired with, the top tier pretends like that's "just the way it is" and you have to just deal with it. But the moment they're put in a similar situation they act like children.

My prediction for Top Five in no order.
1. KD, they'll probably win skit because they've got AEPi on their side and KD always does well in skit and service
2. Sigma Kappa. They'll probably place in skit because they've proven themselves pretty good at it and they're in second place for the blood drive, also great in skit
3. AXO. They were my dark horse pick for winner and still are. Second best pairing in the whole thing, generally hard working house.
4. ATO. Maybe? They'll killing it all by themselves. If my house doesn't win GW, I want ATO to take it because these boys are busting their asses.
5. Phi Mu. If Phi Mu can pull off a skit then they could take second or even first in GW. Their sports teams are very underrated and always much better than anyone expects. And without ADPi's soccer team in the mix, I think Phi Mu could take soccer and maybe one more sport.

I just think the effort put forth by the so-called "top" houses has been a joke so far. I hope the few sororities who are actually working their butts off shine. Having "lower tier" houses win Greek Week would be good for the Greek system as a whole. Maybe we can even get rid of the shaming of houses. I'm in a house that's considered top, and I'm embarassed by our lack of participation, just because some girls don't like our pairing. And I even hope they do random pairings next year, so the whiners don't get their way. Unpopular opinion, I know, but this whole fiasco just illustrates the immaturity of people who should behave better.

It's just the bottom tier houses that think Greek Week is a big deal. I mean, it's fun and everything. But I defy anyone to tell me that they recruited a better pledge class because they made a bigger effort five months earlier and placed in Greek Week competition. I can't ever remember having a conversation that even mentioned Greek Week during rush. It pretty much doesn't matter to PNMs. They've never heard of it.

I agree, I thought Kappa would fight much harder to win their third year in a row.
