mizzou: big 10 or sec?

by:

Hi guys im a senior and i just committed to mizzou.. I'm really excited and looking forward to recruitment. I had kinda a generic question about the greek system... I know Mizzou is still the midwest but I'm from the chicago area and it seems way more southern. Would you say the greek system is more like the traditional southern systems of bama, ole miss, georgia, etc or kinda like the big 10 schools? like still competitive, but not necessarily all that classy. just curious what people have to say.

we just recently joined the sec so i'd say we're in between the 2. rush is competitive but not quite as difficult as the southern schools. we dress more like the sec schools for games and for rush now, classier but not full on lilly pulitzer southern belle (unless you're into that sort of thing)

Since we joined the SEC, a lot of the girls and guys dress more SEC for Game Day and our rush is very competitive just because it's so big but not as cut throat as it is in like Bama.

Campus dress is a mix between Big 10 and SEC, sometimes you see full blown fraternity gear and girls in pearls and Lilly and the whole nine, other times it's Norts and big t-shirts.

As for competitions like HOCO and GW, we've got SEC competitiveness with Big 10 style. It's a weird in-between right now but it's very easy to navigate once you're in the system for a semester.

I am from georgia and mizzou is much closer to big 10 schools that i have visited like indiana and wisconsin. a lot of guys lift weights and wear tank tops, which you don't really see as much in the south, and they try to dress southern but don't really get it quite yet. also the houses at bama/ole miss/georgia are based more on society and who your family is more than who you are as a person. it kinda makes it less traditional and more random but probably better quality in mizzou's good houses.

I have a half-sister who is two years ahead of me at UGA. Their recruitment apparently has a lot more alumnae involvement and is more connection driven (at least when we have compared what we have seen). After visiting UGA, I would have to say Mizzou is more laid back. The UGA fraternity guys put on a show of acting like gentlemen, but are still pretty focused on the same thing Mizzou guys are.

I am from Wisconsin but attend Mizzou for journalism. From what I can gather after visiting friends at UW-Madison, Iowa, Purdue and Indiana, I would say our Greek system is a giant step above those. Sorority rush here is much more structured and competitive and Greek Life in general here is more than just drinking and partying. For example, you never hear about philanthropic work at those schools and Mizzou's participation in Homecoming is light year's ahead of those other schools. I would say that at this point we fall between the Big 10 and the SEC, but are growing more like the SEC every year, which is a good thing.
