Will “top houses” take older transfer students?

by: silk

I’m looking to transfer to Miz next year and was thinking about rushing. How would that work? Would the sorority need to look at my grades from high school or just the college I transferred from? Would sororities take a transfer junior or older student? Would top houses like Tri Delt, Chi O, and Pi Phi reject a 20/21/22/23 year old? Would sosorities be picky about which college or community college a PNM transfers from? Are letters from alums from the sorority needed? Are the rules more relaxed from COB? Trying to make my mind up about whether or not I want to try to join a sorority.

why are people so obsessed with top houses?? you don’t even go here! you don’t know anything about our greek life! jesus, you’re all so fixated on being perceived as a “top house” girl you never take the chance to actually make friendships. i was in a so called “top house” and i was miserable and hated every second. i so badly wished i had rushed somewhere else.

and no, they don’t tend to take older students.

Unfortunately short answer is just no, it’s not going to happen. The houses perceived as “top” (and frankly, most all of the houses) have so many freshmen who want to join and invest four years of time and money into the chapter, it doesn’t make sense to take on girls who will only be around 1-2 years and won’t have time to make a real impact.

You have so much wrong it's hard to tell where to start. Why would you want to be in a new member class with 18 year old freshmen? Because your new member class is your friend group and the older classes are already tight with each other and are beginning to look ahead into graduation, so you would find it difficult to find a friend group. As far as a 'top' house for you, being an older transfer is not desired, so no, not much chance at houses that can pick and choose, and you don't even know what you're talking about if you're actually taking ranks as real from this terrible site. Nobody cares about high school when you've been in college already, so that's wiped out; what did you do in college? Recs never ever hurt, but they will not get you a bid. You can try formal rush but understand that you will have your choices made for you. If that doesn't work out and you still want a sorority then try COB. I would never tell someone not to try their hardest, but you need to get real.
