A message to any PNMs considering this: single intention preference (suiciding) makes you ineligible to be a quota addition, and is the way you risk getting a sad phone call the morning of bid day. After preference round the chapters rank all pnms remaining, and a line is drawn at quota. The girls above that line get a bid if they also preferenced that chapter. If you are not above that line and you maximized your options (listed both chapters during preference) you can be added on to the bid list even if they are above quota. The system rewards those that maximize their options. If you “suicide” and you aren’t on the top of the bid list, you are not able to be added on as a quota addition.

You really should only do it if there is no way you’ll accept a bid from the other chapter, you’d rather not be Greek than give them a chance. You need to decide if that is right choice for you, I just want you to be aware of what it means.

It’s more common than you’d think. Tbh unless you truly have an open mind toward joining a house that isn’t your first choice, personally I would not pref them. I think each sorority deserves to have girls run home to them who will be happy to be there and embrace the experience. Taking pictures in letters I know I’d drop, when someone else who got dropped during the week who’d fit in better doesn’t seem right to me. I suicided and I don’t regret a thing. I was lucky that my sorority mutually wanted me enough where I got matched for a bid. However I mentally prepared myself for heartbreak and to not be a part of bid day if it didn’t work in my favor. I talked to my pi chi and she agreed to help me get involved in the cob process should things go wrong, and I personally felt like I would also be willing to do rush again as a sophomore if need be. My older cousin did recruitment at Mizzou in 2019 and when she told me her rush story, she preferenced 2 house and one which she love and another she tried dropping all week. And she got her bid from the house she didn’t want to be in and when she opened her bid card she bolted out of the field instead of running to the girls of the sorority she got a bid from and immediately went to her dorm to pack up and drive home for the day to be away bid day and Greek life.

The title of this post is wild and shows how outdated and inappropriate this term is

Focus on telling your #1 house how you feel about them. Don't make them guess. You want to be above the quota cut off line with your #1 house. If you sign your card knowing without a doubt that you would rather not be in a sorority at all than in your #2, consider SIP. If you rank both houses and you end up at #2 and don't accept or accept and then drop, you are not eligible for another bid for an entire year. That binding agreement holds for the house or houses you list. There is also something to be said for keeping an open mind at pref, because sometimes that can be a real game changer for pnm's.
