Big Fish in a Small Pond
by: Big FishI’m going thru recruitment with a different mindset. I don’t want to join the Tri Delta, Chi O or Pi Phi houses just to get swallowed up by all of the beautiful overachieving members. I’d rather join a KD or Phi Mu and stand out and be a leader. I’d like to be the prettiest smartest person in the room.

I don’t think this is the right way to go about things, for a couple reasons.
1. The most important thing about recruitment is finding a sisterhood that feels right for you and is somewhere you feel like you are comfortable to both be yourself and grow as a person. Don’t write off a chapter that might be a great fit for you just because you are worried the girls are prettier or smarter or whatever than you. Their success doesn’t mean you can’t be successful too! The university environment is intentionally set up to provide many opportunities.
2. Don’t sell yourself short, this is a new start for you and you can be successful in any chapter! If want you want is leadership roles and involvement, there are plenty of opportunities for that in every chapter and all over campus. If this is important to you surrounding yourself with other driven women can be motivational, provide connections around campus, and support you in your pursuits.

Won't you be surprised to find that you will be lucky if any house is interested in you. Believe me, ALL houses are full of beautiful women and ALL houses have smart girls who are leaders. Unless you lose your condescending attitude, you will be a recruitment drop out just like almost half of those who go through.
