If your resume looks good they will probably read the paragraph. If they automatically know you're not their girl just by your resume they likely won't waste time. Make sure whatever is written is SHORT. Start sending recs in early to mid summer. Any time before or after will either be forgotten or looked over for waiting too long. But, YOUR RESUME IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. That and how you present yourself when you meet the girls is what gets you in. Recs are only a slight boost and to be honest May not make a difference at all. They pick girls based off what they see coming directly from you so make sure you are your best on paper and in person.

And honestly the best way to boost your chances of getting into the house of your choice is to get to know some of the girls in that house ahead of time so that they have a harder time cutting you if they like you. Like meet some of them prior to rush. That's what I did and it got me right in :)

I absolutely disagree that the best way to get into a house is to know the girls ahead of time. In fact, I think the best way to get into a house is to know no one. That's what happened to me. I am from out of state and didn't know even one person in a Mizzou sorority before rush. And I had my choice of houses and pledged a great one. For every girl you know who likes you, there may be one who doesn't. It might be because your cousin stole their boyfriend or you beat out there sister for student council president or you threw up on their desk in third grade. And let's remember how catty and cliquey the St. Louis private school girls are. That was the biggest surprise to me: how impressed they were at having gone to some cheesy private school when everyone knows the real way to rise above the crowd is to excel at a big public school where it doesn't matter how much daddy donated.

I should add that I had a bunch of recs, was a legacy (at a house I ultimately wound up NOT choosing, though I went there on the last day) and only had two B+'s in high school and the rest A's. I pledged a house that really values diversity and my pledge class was full of girls from all over Missouri and from out of state. Having been on the other side of rush, I think that "who you know" thing is really over rated.
