money and rush

by:

I'm an incoming freshmen and can't wait to rush a fraternity.

Are we suppose to flaunt our money during rush or is that just a rush-rumor?
When houses are looking for smarts, do they want 3.8's? Cus thats what I got haha
All this pressure from top or upper-mid tier is crazy. These top/upper/mid houses, what are they looking for? I know they want more than what their websites ask for (personality, athleticism), is it money and smarts?

These houses that have a reputation for smarts, are they specifically looking for preppy smarty pants?

In other words..does being smart have any positive push.. cus thats like 90% of me haha

first off, dont call it smarts. Its academics or grades. smarts makes you sound like you might be 6. second, flaunt your money. third. the upper mid and top are actually no fun at all.

you sound like a douche

You do sound like a douche. You'll fit right in. Except a 3.8 in high school is not that big a deal, esp. if you come from one of those private high schools in St. Louis where they hand out A's to anyone whose check doesn't bounce. It's all about the ACT/SATs.

I'll take my suburban Chicago public school 34 ACT and put my IQ up against yours any day of the week. I've been at Mizzou for four semesters and I have yet to be impressed by even one private school graduate, intellect-wise. Case in point: Phi Kap is full of snotty little rich boys from private schools in St. Louis. Last spring their new members ranked 17th (!!!!!!) among fraternities. Yup. Seventeenth. No great brain trust there.

Says the guy who parlayed his vast IQ and bulbous checkbook into a state university that admits people with 23 ACTs. How does it feel to wind up in exactly the same place as thousands of public high school kids? So much for that expensive education. Next time be sure to let your folks know that in the whole scheme of things, it's where you got your last degree, not your high school diploma, that counts. And what lofty goals you have. When all is said and done you aspire to return to live right around the corner from mommy and daddy and cash in on their friends. Way to aim high.

Yup, I came for the J-school. And, guess what? I pay NO TUITION whatsoever because of my academic scholarship. So pretty much your daddy is paying your tuition AND MINE. And, yes, I got into Northwestern, but I opted for the better education. Print journalism? What are you talking about? There is no such major any longer at the J-School, it has morphed into so much more. So it's time to have mommy read the catalog to you to see what the nation's best journalism school is offering these days. And, you're right, St. Louis is SO MUCH BETTER than Chicago. Not. In fact, I wonder if you have ever even been to Chicago.

I'm a Phi Kap who attended a St. Louis prep school (Burroughs). Here's a hint: even WE don't want this doucher. Maybe he should take his questionable IQ and his daddy's money and go to a school where that impresses people, if he can find one. He will soon find that it's not where you are from, but where you are going, that matters.
