Clear this up for me - really

If Mizzou's Greek community draws from the same student body, why is it that sororities attract such smart, thoughtful women and fraternities skew sort of doofus/bro. You would almost think they were on two different campuses. I'm legitimately asking. How can the culture be so different?

I don't have the answer. All I know is that the smartest women I know are Greeks and the smartest men I know aren't.

Smart men join either join professional or academic fraternities/societies where they could be more useful and make a difference. They would not waste their time with social fraternities that are mostly irresponsible for their actions and could care less of succeeding professionally or academically.

I think it's about the nationals. Sorority nationals are pretty strict and are run by women who are overachievers. Fraternity nationals are run by guys who can't make it in the real world with a real bro mentality. I know this because my brother is part of a fraternity national and, trust me, he couldn't get hired anywhere else with his mediocre grades and general business degree from a second-tier state school (not mizzou).

I have wondered about this for a long time, too. Its corollary: Why is it the sharpest sorority women do not date Greek guys but the sharpest fraternity guys date Greek women?
