Sororities no male guest

by:

Please someone explain to me how we as young women want equality but we treat our houses like it’s the 50’s. Why can’t the guys come over? Why is Greek life still saying we as women can’t have visitors?

You want sorority houses to look like frat house?

well I get where you’re coming from, I also think it’s important that the other women feel comfortable going to and from the bathroom/showers and just existing in the house. I know there have been plenty of times in house where coming across a man while I’m in my towel or right out of bed would’ve made me very uncomfortable.

I feel you girl, but on the other side of it, I believe safety is factor. Girls wanna use the bathroom in peace without having to worry. And let’s be real many frat guys are drunk during the week and having boys potentially being able to run loose in the house could make an incident I would never forgive myself for if I enable a condition for someone to hurt one of my sisters. The rule really does seem prehistoric, but in my own experience in the dorms a girl on my floor got assaulted by guy who also lived in the building and it’s sad to say she probably wasn’t the first. I genuinely believe we are a lot safer by limiting where and when guys are allowed in the house. And I don’t think any sororities nationals or risk management is willing to risk changing it, because well word spreads quick. Would you have continued to rush a house where you knew an assault happened? Probably not.

I can think of quite a few reasons. There's the privacy of your sisters and their ability to enjoy living in the house without unknown guys roaming around at all hours? Or the risk management, security and insurance liability issues it raises for nationals and the people (alums, house manager, etc.) who operate the house? Because Ted Bundy in the Chi Omega house at Florida State in 1978?

the reality of the situation is that men pose a greater risk to women than women do to men. if I were to walk out of my room and see a man in the hall how would I know if he was a guest or intruder?? also there are tons of places for you to hang out with a guy. a house full of women just isn’t one of them

If you don't like it, quit. It's one year of your life. If you are so desperate to please men by inconveniencing your sisters and their comfort and safety, you have a problem. Many women join sororities to get away from random guys roaming around their living space.

Dude, and you clearly are a dude, maybe I just don't want you seeing me in a towel and it's nothing whatsoever to do with your so-called restraining yourself. I want privacy and not have males on the private floors in my house. You are one creepy af dude pretending to be an offended woman on here.

If "Houses" is nearing the end of the undergrad journey, he/she lives in an apartment, not a sorority house - so those comments are irrelevant. Do what you want, live where you want, screw who you want, pander to who you want. Just don't inconvenience your sisters.

If you were actually in a sorority you would know that by senior year you're living in an apartment and can do what you want. But you're not in a sorority so this is a made up concern.

Isn't it pathetic that there are women who would rather please men in a shared room in a sorority house with thin walls than consider the comfort level of the women they call sisters? So selfish, or needy, or both.

Any woman who had a freshman roommate bring back random guys to their roo, to have relations with (loudly 🤨) appreciates this rule.

How about keeping up traditions? Just because this was in the 50s doesn’t make it wrong. I mean, really who are we hurting by keeping the rule? I think it is cool to walk into a beautiful house, look at a grand staircase and wonder what is upstairs.
