COB/Informal Question

by:

What are the rules for COB/Informal? So many Pi Chis push girls to stay with the house they received a bid from even if they are not happy. If they went to bid day but then dropped that house later can they still do COB/Informal?
If so, how long do you have to wait?

When do we find out who is doing informal recruitment?

If you accept a bid (aka you list that house on the mraba) from any sorority you’re bound to it until next year’s formal recruitment, so you can’t decline a bid/drop a house before initiation and do informal or cob. Informal and cob are only for people who didn’t receive a bid

You didn’t give that chapter a chance. It’s been 3 days. Stop romanticizing other groups of girls who could have invited you to join their sisterhood, but didn’t. Some girls spent bid day crying their eyes out because they got a call they didn’t receive any bid and there’s a very good chance they wanted to be in the very chapter you’re so unsatisfied with…after 3 days. You can’t do informal if you’ve accepted a bid during formal recruitment, so you can either try again sophomore year or choose to not pursue Greek life anymore.

If they didn't want you during formal, they probably won't want you now. Sorry, but it's true.

Just because they contacted that girl does not mean she will get a bid. The house in question prob got a list of girls who indicated an interest in COB, and just reached out to tnem all. The number of bids through COB is determined by the number set for average chapter size. Also, some chapters have a "once cut always cut" policy, which might come into play later.

Single option preference is obviously discouraged, but let’s be grown and think. Why would you sign that you are willing to receive a bid from a house you felt through recruitment you would never enjoy. I get pi chi’s are there for guidance but at the end of the days it’s their college experience and money that’s on the line. After pref round when I was a freshman I had my house I loved from day 1 and another that was by no means my favorite and kinda just floated to the end with me, but I knew the girls were sweet, I respected their philanthropy and I have the kind of personality where I can make friends with a super wide range of people, so I kept them bc I knew if I did single option preference and didn’t get my house I would have been absolutely devastated bc i wouldn’t have been in a sorority at all. Now that’s not the case for a lot of girls. If you are a picky person and not open minded I would not even waste your time, just pick the one you want on pref, and if you get a call you don’t have a bid, it will suck, but at least you have the option to COB in fall or spring. Playing it the PHA way only really works for girls who share PHA’s values of openness. Pi Chi’s are there to guide you but above all else the decision is yours and you know the best for your life.

If you had no other choices all during recruitment but one acceptable house and one that wsn't acceptable, don't think you will have better luck during informal.
