splain it to me
by: ????I'm not being rude and I'm not passing judgment. It's just that I always hear that ChiO is the top house on campus. Why do y'all think that is? I gave them a chance but they just weren't for me. What did I miss?

I don't think they're for everyone, but you can't deny that they excel in a variety of areas. Involvement, grades, looks, sisterhood. I'm not sure that they are tops in ALL of those areas, but they are very strong across the board. And they do extremely well during rush. I think the only other house in their league is PiPhi. There are some up and comers, ADPi and Kappa, but for now ChiO (and PiPhi?) seem to have everything going for them. And if Theta were more well-rounded and Delta more diverse in the type of girls they take, they also could challenge ChiO. I guess what I'm saying now that I read this is that there are many extremely STRONG houses on our campus. We should be proud.

I knew they weren't for me the minute I walked in the door. I was uncomfortable the entire time, and I can't remember the conversation, but I remember the girls that I talked to. Ugh. NOT attractive or personable, but they thought they were all that. Seriously, I got the impression they were stuck up, and giving me a gift by just having me in their house. Chi O might have a lot going for them right now, but I know Kappas, Phi Mus, AXO's and Thetas that are better people, more well rounded than those girls. So, I agree. What's the big deal?

I guess it all depends on what you think a top house should consist of. I think a top house should defy stereotypes. In other words, they should go out and get the very best girls, not just the pretty girls or the smart girls or blonds or rich girls or whatever. Ideally, they would find smart, pretty girls as a base line and then make sure they also have a third element that can really enhance the house. That might be leadership or musical prowess or the ability to really engage others in conversation or athleticism or any number of other things. That's how you become the house people want to join, by not being one-dimensional and by having extremely high standards.

Chi-O impressed me so much the first day. WOW. Beautiful girls, friendly, bubbly and the sort of girls I wanted to be. Then by like day three apparently somebody let the weirdos out of the basement because I had some girl talking to me about "Chi-O-Bagals" and bragging non stop about how amazing they did in HOCO and that it wasn't fair to the other sororities how good they were. My mind was blown. Especially since it was SISTERHOOD day and all the other houses I was at were telling me about their favorite memories with their sisters and all of that stuff I wanted to hear about. Dropped Chi-O after that and never looked back.

Chi-O wasn't my cup of tea either but they are the most consistently strong house on campus.
