Fraternities have their selling pitches to PNM’s down. Each one will tell you about their alumni network, but in all honesty alumni mainly provide financial support to fraternity chapters in donations. Each chapter will hold an alumni weekend during the year so former alum will come back to the house to see their pledge class again and tailgate. Sure in a situation like that you’ll be able to meet some guys, but it likely will not be sober and there isn’t any promise that they’ll connect you to the opportunities you want, but some will actually be helpful if they see potential in you and you’re not the average degenerate... okay so if you do have an alum willing to connect you to opportunities it’ll usually be in the form of them recommending you for an internship from a company they work for or own. Which can be a good thing! You’ll come to realize the value of internships in college because some sort of real world work experience will likely be needed for you to get your first entry level job out of college. I want to be transparent with you and let you know most alumni in each chapter will be able to connect you to similar opportunities. However if you join a chapter like Beta which is wealthy and have wealthy alumni, you’ll obviously have connections to the most privileged opportunities if you connect with someone. If you’re looking to get into agribusiness chapters like AgRho and AgSig will have alumni best suited to guide you. Everyone else is practically on equal playing ground. The last thing I want to say is don’t base your choice on just this. I get that you’re trying to be a responsible guy looking at his future but, alumni connections will not be your motivation to stay in a fraternity for 4 years dealing fray bureaucracy and paying thousands of dollars in dues. The experiences they can provide and your connections to the members character and values is what will get you to stay. Make sure you like the guys and you’ll have a memorable 4 years. Hope as time continues this week you become more confident in what fraternity is best for you, and that they want you back.
