What’s going on with Tri Sigma?
by: 2025I’ve heard from students that they might be kicked off campus. Is this true?
#2by: Hardly news
Every sorority with a new house is in debt. The most financially stable are the sororities with the majestic old houses and the strong alumni networks: ADPi, PiPhi, Kappa. Often their dues are among the lowest, too. Losing members and having a high overhead is nothing new. Most of the newer sororities on campus are in this situation.
#3by: The reality
TriSig has a terrible alumni network, locally and nationally. Without alumni $upport, it's very difficult to do well at Mizzou, especially with a relatively new sorority. You see houses like PiPhi and AdPi that have such a strong alumni network that if they need improvements to the house they are paid for before the work even begins. If TriSig's alums don't step up, they're screwed.

They aren’t kicked off yet but my friend is in it and told me they are in serious debt. A lot of girls dropped and their house is only like 1/2 full next year. They need girls desperately but it will be hard for them because other chapters put on a better rush than they do

Some people think that this happens to all the new houses, but it seems like these issues are more than that. Truthfully I think we have too many sororities on campus and not enough people wanting to be in them. Why is it that so many houses do informal recruitment? Across the board just about every house seems to do informal, yet so many people get cut from houses during the formal recruitment process. Ideally, houses shouldn’t have to do informal if they take enough girls. I don’t get the thought process
#7by: Not so fast
Let's not be so quick to put the nail in TriSig's coffin. There are several sororities on this campus that are just one recruitment away from being in their shoes. And
TriSig is just one good recruitment away from being a much stronger house. I wouldn't gloat if I were you because your own house might be facing this same thing if it doesn't have a great rush in August.

So what I’ve noticed is sigma has had a cycle of having a mass of girls drop after living in house. So the bulk of their members typically end up being underclassmen. Idk what happened this year… they had previously been making quota on bid day. They need to really revamp the member experience especially for girls in house, so they’ll actually stay when they move out. I think they’ll definitely have to do COB this fall. I really feel bad because had it not been for the pandemic I think less girls would have dropped, and they would have a stronger showing at rush like previous years when they were filling quota. I just hope that stay true to what they value in membership and don’t just take any girl just to fill the house. In the long run that’s not sustainable and they really do deserve to get the kind of girls they want, they’re so sweet.

The same can be said for several sororities on this campus. In fact, there is one house that each year sets a record for the number of members who drop out/flunk out. And they seem to think they are a top house!
