watches

by:

My sister and cousin are both currently in a sorority and they said that wearing a watch is sort of a don't during recruitment. Is this true and why not?

Ummm.. Personally, I've never heard of this. It's like the "don't take the water" thing. Take the water, it's hot during recruitment. Wear a watch, be on time to each house. No one really cares. Sure, wear your Michael Kors watch if you want to, wear a cute off-brand watch. No one but DG is going to ask what your parents do for a living, so show off if you want or don't. It's your choice. Just look pretty. Chances are, 90% of us are going to be good at talking to PNMs and might not notice the watch, unless you make it a focal point.

In all seriousness, a watch is not going to make or break whether or not you get into a house. It's your personality, grades, and involvement.

The risk you run with wearing a watch is looking cheap if it's not a nice watch. Some houses might look at your watch if it's off brand and judge you for it, like "lol" said, a Michael Kohrs would be a very nice bet, and look very cute! Though honestly I'm always more worried about what a PNM is saying rather than what she's accessorizing with. Unless it's like a fake Louis bag, those are an eyesore and it just looks like you're trying too hard to impress.

Best advice, wear the watch if you're worried about being on time, just be sure it goes well with your outfit and you're ready to talk about yourself and try to impress!

Wear a watch if you want to. A big watch with a unique band is one of today's top accessories. Most quality houses will care much more about what you say than what you wear. And if a house decides to not ask you back because you wore a watch, you wouldn't want to be in that house anyway.

posts like this make me cringe lol. the responders failed to mention that although real louis bags and michael kors watches are nice, most college students cant afford them. so dont feel pressured to have to rock these items at all, ever. just be a classy human and everything will work out.

I am in a top house and we laugh at girls who come through with Louis Vuitton bags and similar items. They scream: "I'm superficial." We prefer that our PNMs have some substance and if you think outrageously priced designer handbags are the way to impress us, you're wrong.

I'm the one who posted about the Louis bag and I agree with both "not really" and "lol" but I thought it was worth mentioning that if you are going to bring something like that through Recruitment, do NOT let it be a fake because those are easy to spot a mile away. If you wanna show that you have money, wear something a little more subdued. Michael Kohrs watch, Tiffany necklace. Something subtle yet noticeable. Though again, like they said, having substance, something to offer a house and being put together is your best chance in any house.

I go to another school, and during recruitment, people told me to not wear a watch because if you feel awkward/uncomfortable you're prob gonna wanna fidget, and looking at your watch will most likely be something you're gonna fidget with. It looks rude if you're looking at a watch like you're desperate to get out of the house. BASICALLY it's for your own good to not bring in things/wear things that will sort of "distract" you from the actual recruitment. This is NOT something that has to do with money/fashion/anything like that, it really is for your own good!

Y'all have no idea since y'all just entered the SEC, but coming from an SEC school I'm the south who's rush is the hardest, I can assure you it's not because they look "cheap." As simple as it sounds, they just do not want PNMs checking the time and looking bored and anxious to leave the house and move to the next

Ok hot shot, you must be a big deal since you're in a sorority at a school in the south, please educate me. Also, why do you spend your time commenting in posts from other schools? I can only imagine how much you post in your own school's greek rank page
