If you were me...

by:

Recruitment is going to be so different this year and everyone is full of uncertainty. Let's be honest, the school year will be different, too. I understand why, and I applaud the university for the changes. But I am about to be a freshman and am wondering: if you were me, would you skip recruitment this year and go through as a sophomore? I'd appreciate your advice.

I would still go through rush this year if you can so you can meet the girls in the house that are your age! Either way will be great but with everything changing this year this is still a great way to meet people right away

tbh if I were you I'd just take a gap year!

I considered that, as have many of my friends. But I am on a 3-year-plan to finish and then have many, many years of med school ahead of me, so this is particularly troubling. After this year I really will have only two years left of undergrad and only one in the house if I don't go through this year. As my dad says, "there are no right answers."

I think the quality houses will get the same quality people. It is the houses that make their decisions based on looks alone that will have trouble. Let's be honest. The quality houses make lots of their choices based on what a PNM offers on paper (GPA, honors, elected positions, volunteering) and on recs from alums. But the other houses make their choices based on superficial appearances a lot more because the smart/involved women wouldn't choose the so-called "looks" houses anyway. One thing for sure is that it's going to be very different. Just make sure you have lots of recs for the quality houses because they will count more than ever.

if your a PNM rushing, this piece of advice is EVERYTHING. Be prepared if your looking to be in an accomplished, academic house.

Did someone pretending to know all about accomplished, academic houses REALLY just spell "you're" wrong? I guess we know someone who's NOT prepared.

I’d take a gap year but I see why you don’t want to, that makes sense for you. I think if you are going to be at Mizzou anyway might as well rush this year.
One thing you have to think of is how your academic schedule will effect the time and energy you can put into being in a sorority. You’re going to have less of that to spare the closer you get to med school, especially studying for the mcat your 3rd year.

Numbers are going to be very low this year. I think some houses will struggle, especially those who lose so many girls anyway and are constantly COBing. There just won't be a very big pool of those girls because there is a better chance they wont drop out of recruitment.
