Chapters please use your platforms
by: WaitingThis is directed toward the exec councils of all the chapters. I recognize that a simple post won’t fix injustice but these are conversations that can’t be avoided any longer. Silence in this situation is making a clear statement, so use your voices if you truly believe otherwise, use your voices if you truly value women of color in your chapter, use your voice if you truly believe your chapter is open to be home to POC. And best believe the PNMs are watching you all and they can see the silence. Even chapters in Alabama of all schools are speaking out, so don’t be absent in Missouri. Food for thought.

I am an officer in my chapter and we truly seek diversity. Our national feels it is an excellent way to achieve a complete education and we absolutely agree with that. Plus, it's just wrong to judge a person by the color of their skin. We all know there are chapters who feign non-discrimination, but if you look at their composites it just isn't true. They are white as a sheet and, yes, the symbolism is intentional. Unless we ALL make a legitimate effort to be inclusive, we are part of the problem. White privilege should have no home here.
